My first record purchase was around 12 years ago at age 8. I picked up Queen's "Kind of Magic" album based on my great adoration of the main theme from the film Highlander -- beyond that, at age 10 and through my early teens I listened primarily to mainstream rock radio ala Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Collective Soul, Live, etc, and "classic" rock like the Beatles, Led Zeppelin, The Who, Jimi Hendrix, etc...at some point I took an interest in commercial alternative metal like Korn, Tool, Deftones, Helmet etc, but this was breif...
...at around age 15 or 16 I discovered broadband internet and that changed everything!

Immediately after "classic rock" and "commercial alternative" I headed towards the Prog-Rock camps (which I still enjoy), and fell in love w/ the sounds of King Crimson, Yes, Gentle Giant, Van Der Graaf Generator, Brian Eno, etc. After a lengthy love afair there I drifted towards Electronic music and Industrial. Artists like Aphex Twin and Squarepusher led me towards a greater appreciation of Jazz forms and I took a great interest there. Somewhere in the mdist of all of this I got into "world" music and classical of all periods...in the past few years, I've been listening primarily to avant-garde/experimental musicians, and well, that brings us to the present.

My collection spans over 2,000 albums from every conceivable genre and style (omitting most rap, country, pop, etc) and grows daily...
