best lyrics

when was the last time you heard a rap song that moved your mind? that made you think? that told you something meaningful about your life, or the world or anything else?
here are a few examples that did it to me:

1) murs: God's work.
one of the best 9-5ers anthems. very frank, makes a poetry out of stinking daiy job (like my own...).

2)the roots: you got me.
made me realize that relationships are basically the same, whether you are a hiphop star or just a regular guy - the way they get ill sometimes, the thoughts about cheating, the need for love on daily basis.

3) the coup: Me And Jesus The Pimp In A '79 Granada Last Night.
god damn this song. its lyrics are so powerful, so complicated that somebody should write a f%^#ing thesis about it. although telling a story about a pimp, a whore and her son - also a pimp, isn't it a metaphor for all "normal" families in general?

4) immortal technique: dance with the devil.
this song gives a completely new definition to the so frequently used "motherfucker". the first time i heard it, it made me shiver. literally.

if you have songs with lyrics that "did it" to you - share them. a short description of them would also be appreciated.

D

I can't say much good for rap. It may just be because I've only seen the stuff they play on TV, I've never gone out to check out the unknown, possibly good artists.
But from what I've seen on TV (don't bother pointing out it's an unjust opinion, I'm aware) it seems all the songs are about one of two things:
1) A guy lives in a ghetto, he gets in trouble, he has his hoes, then cut to the same guy dressed as a pimp in a big facy car head to a nightclub with even more of his hoes, please.
2) A guy is very rich and succesful, he has hoes, money, and fancy cars. These ones usually have psychadelic effects or some weird storyline (the new Ludacris video).
There are probly more but all I've seen is mumbling things I can't understand and domestic abuse. Mainstream rap is terrible, there may be some good stuff out there, I can't get past the image the mainstream guys portray to check it out.

yeah, and all rock songs are about two subjects:
1) a guy was left by his girl. he is very sad. he is lonely. there is drinking involved. he suffers. he is depressed. she comes back.
2) a guy was left by his girl. he is very sad. he is lonely. there is drinking involved. he suffers. he is depressed. she doesnt come back.

First of all, I never denied that.
Second, not all songs are like that. I even said not all rap songs may be like that, I just have a bad image of it.
And if the guy is left by the girl he doesn't go out and shoot her or beat her or gather a posse of hoes about him.
Good job assuming the best way to offend me was insulting rock music, real good moron, cut me deep.

Can I chime in?
I'll still be rhymin' when I'm in your hymen
I radiate like it was '88, and I'm searching for my lady mate
I'm a hunter-gatherer, a cunter-latherer
My dandy voice makes the most anti-choice,
granny's panties moist

didnt mean to offend, man. just pointed out that there is no need to be steriotipical about any genre of music. i mean, if you realize that rap is much more than these stereotipes, why bother bringing them up again?
and about calling me moron - now THAT cut me deep.

1) Black star - Theives in the night

really the whole song is great. and you should all listen to it and read the lyrics. but here is a sample

[M.D.] Not strong
[T.K.] Only aggressive
[M.D.] Not free
[T.K.] We only licensed
[M.D.] Not compassioniate, only polite
[T.K.] Now who the nicest?
[M.D.] Not good but well behaved
[T.K.] Chasin after death
so we can call ourselves brave?
[M.D.] Still livin like mental slaves

2) Goobie Mob - Thought process
again. same as what I said for the Blackstar song.

Food for the soul listen to what I tell you it don't matter
Young or old it's time we loc' up and do like we suppose
We killin' each other over this bullshit and some clothes
We're trapped off in this world and society with no place else to go
So how U feel???

i think the song neglected from grouch ft. eligh is pretty tight

i think this is one of the best songs lyrically about girls in general

(Grouch)
Momma whats wrong with me, I've got a lovely family and friends
And thats enough to make ends meet fuck dividends
But I be livin' in a lonely ass world
Searchin' for the perfect woman, not a little girl

.................................................. .................................................. ...

(Eligh)

I grab the notion by the throat
That maybe some day I'll be acompanied
By somebody who trusts in me, deeply
Seeping through walls and blockades
With stockades of armour, and self prepelled hand grenandes
