Keep a journal and write down whatever pops into your head, however insane it sounds.
And when you're feeling in the right mood, revolve yourself around one emotion and gather everything from your past present and future and baby, put everything you got into that song.
Music is a universal language, so when you write music, make it understandable for everyone. Don't write a song about murdering your parents and put it to a polka, please.
Well, go ahead and do that if you want. I don't care.
Lyrics, if you're writing them in English, should either cut to the point in minimalistic wording or you can dance around the truth forever and ask the listener what he thinks you're talking about, like the Deftones, God bless, but the bottom of the shit heap is all that's in between. Like those love songs that just keep repeating, over and over, "Oh baby I love you like I love chocolate cake and even if you both fatten me up and give me heart problems, it doens't matter, baby, cuz yo, I've gotchu now and I'm horny and lalala I love you."

My tip!
Goes like this:
1) Shower (10-20 mins)
2) Find a place thats very comfortable to lay down or sit down.
3) Close your eyes and think deep.
4) Write or drow down the most significent things that pops into your head.
5) Connect those things with your emotion and feelings that you have at that moment.
6) Pick up a pen or pencil (dont type!)
7) Take a deep breath, and let the words flow!

I'm with the dope smoking guy....
You sit down and look at something and write a song about it BUT you somehow twist it up so it's all hidden meanings about whatever object it is, then it ends up meaning something else... strange, no?
Or if you're a rapper mumble, make up some words, talk about some hoes, then about how you do drugs, get shot, and arrested, that's all there is to it
