I actually got one of her CDs as a gift.

I don't like it all that much, a bit too cheesy at times. definitely not my cup of tea.

If anything, I would have to say that, as a classically trained violinist, pianist, cellist, and bassist, I know a bit about stringed-instrument entertainers (and percussion).

Vanessa-Mae is a favourite of mine, the style of music she chooses is of a wide range and the style that she uses to play the pieces is quite beautiful.

She brings the genre of Classical music to a wider range of people, from young to old, and in doing this, she widens the perspective of the genre.

I believe that Vanessa-Mae is a wonderful addition to violinists, ranking today with yesterday's Perlman, Benny, and many other greats.

...and now (Second Piano Concerto [1901] - Sergei Vassilievich Rachmaninoff)

hrmmm... I find Vanessa Mae is a bit of a "muscle flexing" musician. I don't claim to know a lot about her, but from what I have heard it's the Steve Vai and Al DiMeola of classical music. While they may be virtuosos, I don't particularly enjoy them.

That is understandable, not many do.

I for one am open to new forms of music, some call her form New Classical, others call it crap... it's all in perspective.

I feel that her music has opened the genre to younger listeners, for one, because of her age; and secondly because of the "band" behind her. While she plays the classics, the others on stage bring up the beat and give it a more new-age feel. I'm not completely for it, but I do feel that Fantasia on the G String (Niccolo Paganini) was one that she played most beautifully.

I first watched her play when I was 11 years old, I believe, and it was magnificent. The way she moved around the stage while playing a pearl white electric violin... awesome.

I just know that "Back Street Prelude" never gets old and I couldn't love it anymore...I've heard other songs by her, but that one song seems to be the one I can't turn off.

Well, modern classical is getting more popular and i have no doubt that Vanessa Mae greatly helped this, now there are loads of new modern classical groups like, Bond, Amici Forever and the brilliantly skilled Maksim (the pianist).. Personally I like Vanessa Mae's less electronic music, have any of you heard her 'China Girl' album? It's great!

Smile Vanessa Mae sucks

Vanessa Mae is a fraud. Can you imagine Nathan Milstein performing in a jockstrap whilst dancing on a NY cab?
