The Goldberg Variations is one of my favorite piano pieces. For those that want something beside the obvious Glenn Gould, which is excellent, I would recomend

Rosalyn Tureck on VAI
Christophe Rousset on Oiseau-Lyre
Andras Schiff on Penguin

Uri Caine just released his third Mahler inspired recording for anyone interested.

I am not a fan of any of Keith Jarrett's classical works. His jazz playing on the other hand is excellent.

The recorded performance of Goldberg Variations that I love is an old RCA recording by harpsichordist Wanda Landowska. I wonder if this has ever been released on CD.

I don't think so. The Rousset version is played on harpsichord.

Is it considered a lesser version?

I just checked the 1945 RCA was released on a 2CD set, which include other Bach compositions. EMI has also her 1933 version. It was the first recording by anyone of the variations.

If you are asking if I prefer Rousset's over Landowska's? The answer is yes. But I would not use the word inferior for Landowska's. If you know what I mean?
