I have a set of Jamo speakers:

Long term Power: 50W
Short term Power: 70W
Impedance: 6 Ohm

Long term Power: 100W
Short term Power: 140W
Impedance: 4 Ohm

Im looking to wire them up to my Television, tape/dvd deck and Xbox and someone told me i need an amp. The thing is, because the impedance is low on the two floor mounted speakers they said im going to have a very hard time finding an amp to power them and ill probably have to buy two amps, one to power the floor speakers and another to power the three surround-sound speakers.
Does anyone know what Ill need to power these speakers and a place online that sells this sort of equipment? Will i need two amps?!

You can buy home amps, they look just like car amps except well they run off of a standard electrical socket. Should be pretty standard equipment for any store that specializes in home audio equipment.

Yeh, i went round to a home audio place today and thats what they said, ill need two amps because one thatll power these speakers are too rare - because of the low impedance. I was under the impression that i would only need a standard 5way amp.

you need 2 amps for those speakers? well, how is it gonna work with 2 amps and all those speakers plus all those other things?

then again, do you really need to get full power from those speakers? or you don't care if your landlord evicts you

an powerful amp for surround sound seems to be appropriate, but then, I don't know. I am not very good at these kind of things.

I have an ancient(early 80's) amp from JVC and a 3-channel mixer. I hooked everything up to the 3-channel mixer and then, have the 3-channel mixer output to the amp.

Yeh, i was wondering about those mixers, maybe it could convert the impedance to something abit higher so a run of the mill 5 way amp will be able to power them.

I think you should check Jamo's website and see what kind of amp they recommand you, if they have recommandations. or just call them and see what they say.

my main problem with my stereo set up right now is the DVD player. the output signal from the DVD player seems to be very weak. but then I figured the output signal is not exactly for my ancient stereo amp. it should be fine if I invest lots of money for a home theatre system with all that 5.1 digital dolby whatever the heck

No, i cant find a suitable amp! They are fantastic speakers too and they are just sitting there not being used. I cant wait to hear them.

I am sorry... I guess if you are that desperate, you should just get the most powerful amp that you can afford right now. at least you will get some sound out of them.
