the fact that Wayne Static, Danny Carey and Otto von Schirach are on this new album means I'll give it a chance...

Was it not worth checking out before?

Not trying to be an ass, I'm just curious.

I'll be buying the album, but I'm a bit put-off by the comparison to The Process. That album was an absolute stinker IMO, I'd rather they'd have called it quits with Last Rights. Suppose it shows how good Skinny Pupy used to be, I'm going to buy the album, even though their last one was awful, and cEvin Key's stuff as been average at best since TEOSP.

Fingers crossed that it recaptures some of the old magic.

I'm just not a big Puppy fan, maybe this will strike my curiosity to delve into older material once again...

I can understand you not putting in the horror of, "The Process".

I heard some samples off the album today and i regret to say they sound like The Process crossed with Oghr..

Bah!

But I'll giveit more of a listen.

tracks 1, 2, and 9, 10 are really not that bad, but the rest are just old reworkings it seems, nothing overly creative, but still the puppy of old...you either love them or hate them. I'm not sure how I feel really. Not something that I would listen to all the time, but also not something I'd call completely boring. Definitely more electronic than anything else I've heard from them. Starts off pretty hard, and then just kinda continues on a off and on path.

a "friend" of mine somehow managed to get an advanced release on irc.
"he" seemed to agree that ohGr showed up for the vocals rather than mr. nivek ogre...
maybe all the heroin turned his voice into a cartoon character's.
ogre does come thru on a few tracks, but not the standouts.
anyways, i... *cough*.... i mean "he" is not opposed to the ohGresque style, but you won't feel like you are listening to the power and beauty of late 80's/early 90's puppyiness.
however, the sound is not as abrasive and retarded as the process, which is well known to be yucky, and instead you will find that some very dark and beutiful synth lines have replaced the sound of the process, which will remind you of 'inquisition' or the breathtaking 'nature's revenge'.
unfortunately there's not a stand-out as incredible as 'frozen sky' the ogre featured track from 'the ghost of each room', but tracks 2/3 and 7/9/10 really captured my attention. the rest is solid but certainly not equivalent tdp or last rights. (notice that i don't put rabies here like many others did because stupid Al Jourgensen slightly corrupted the sound/production and IMHO somewhat indirectly lead to the falling out of ogre and key). anyways, this album is essential for any puppy fan (not just the obsessive ones... lol).

oh... and remember that pirating is wrong!, and i will now slap my "friend" for stealing copyrighted material... hooray for the RIAA!

I finally dared to listen to the new Skinny Puppy album. I would say it is a mixture of 25% of Skinny Puppyness + 75% of Oghr.

while I am disappointed as a long time skinny puppy fan, but as an oghr fan, it is not too bad. it is even enjoyable if I remember the fact that it is a different person on vocal this time around.

what I missed the most is the abrasiveness and the movie samples they used to litter most of their old skinny puppy tracks.
