Milton Nascimento
if you haven't heard anything by this guy you should definitely look into him.
he is similar to caetano veloso, tom ze, gilberto and many other tropicalia artists.
the best place to start would probably be the album he did with lo borges, "clube da esquina." absolutely beautiful!

Yes, a wonderful album by any standard. Great songs, beautiful arrangements, and high artistry. Milton Nascimento is one of the most noted singers of the past 50 years (although he's not that well known in the U.S., which is a shame).

He's probably unknown by the general pop public, but the jazz lovers certainly know him by his Native Dancer (with Wayne Shorter) and Courage (with Herbie Hancock), both of them recorded in USA with american staff. In the late 90's, he released Angelus, with spetial guests like Peter Gabriel, Jon Anderson, Herbie Hancock, James Taylor, Ron Carter, Jack deJohnette, Pat Metheny, Wayne Shorter, etc (is there any Weather Report member missing?)
But anyway, his best albums are all of those in the 60's and 70's, and I can't pick just one. Travessia, Milton Nascimento, Milton, Clube da Esquina, Minas, Geraes, Milagre dos Peixes (studio records and live), Clube da Esquina 2...
He had an enourmous gap of quality in the 80's and 90's, to come back with his 2002 release Pietà. Just marvellous!
