Cool Want to get into jazz

I'm looking to get into jazz, and I'm looking for some reccomendations. i don't have many jazz cds now,but I will list the jazz cds that I own.

Addison Groove Project - Addison Groove Project
Addison Groove Project - Allophone
Addison Groove Project - Wicked Live
Addison Groove Project - Wicked Live 2
Greyboy Allstars - West Coast Boogaloo
Herbie Hancock - Headhunters
Jaco Pastorius - Jaco Pastorius
Joe Pass - Virtuoso
The Crusaders - Scratch [Live]
The Mahavishnu Orchestra - The Inner Mounting Flame (if this is considered jazz)

I especially enjoy the jazz jam band stuff, the stuff with really groovy and funky beats. But I think I would also enjoy some other jazz too. I would appriciate some reccomendations of bands as well as albums. Thanks.

We already have a "recommendations" thread and an "essential Jazz albums" thread...isn't that enough?

...but given your tastes, I'd say you can't go wrong w/ the basics...(( and I wouldn't want to suggest anything too extreme to start off with. ))

Bill Evans Trio - Sunday At The Village Vanguard/Waltz For Debby
Miles Davis - Kind of Blue
John Coltrane - A Love Supreme

...if you're looking for something a bit more contemporary, you can't go wrong with the Vandermark 5 or anything on the Cryptogramophone label...

I'd suggest more, but like I said, we've already got plenty of threads on this topic.

Yes, of course, you will like Al Di Meola :
Flesh on flesh
The Grande Passion (World Sinfonia)
The Infinite Desire
Revisited (2003)
and a lot of all the others

And Pat Metheny
Trio 99 --> 00

Jean-Luc Ponty
The very best of Jean-Luc Ponty (2000)

And of course check out the thread Seba Aethiad has mentionned !

And if you have guts, take a CD of Moondog (Sax pax for a sax and Moondog album 1969)
