Another good source that you an use for quick info for all styles of music is All Music Guide.

On the whole their reviews are ok but not on par with Penguin. They also at times have wrong information on the musicians involved or other vital information.

Since Penguin is written in Great Britian they tend to favor a lot of European musicians. They also are big fans of avant and free musicians as well as people like those I have named already.

Anything w/ the word penguin catches my attention! *Favourite animal*

So you want to listen to Jazz

Well to start off I know nothing about the genre. I've heard bits and pieces over time and from what I've heard I like. So I'm pretty much asking you for the best of the best as far as singles go, Jazz album essentials, songs that really got you into the genre. Again, I know nothing about the genre so I really don't know where to start.

I guess singles would be prefered cause to start off I will be downloading.

phew

well, I guess you better start off with Louis Armstrong, because he's one of the most important figures in jazz history. You should check out the album: "Louis Armstrong II" This CD contains many songs from his legendary Hot Fives and Hot Sevens CDs.

I also suggest: John Coltrane "blue train". IMHO, this is one of the most "user friendly" albums as far as listening to.

But singles, man that's hard. I could suggest a hundred of them...
I don't know if you like musical or jazz, with a singer?
- With a singer, I suggest:
* Chet Baker (my funny valentine, it's always you, let's get lost)

* billie holliday: strange fruit (although, this is a very depressing and hard song to listen too, it's really beautiful too);

* ella fitzgerrald: I think any of her songs will do, as they are easy to listen too.

- musical jazz:

* Miles davis: anything from B1tches brew, and kind of blue
pfff...there are so many, it's annoying

I'm sure others will add some more I'm lazy

My apologies guys, I know how annoying it is when someone comes into a new part of the forum and disregards the stickys. Guess I can only say that this new look to radiomute really threw me off. Well I was going to start a huge list of downloads so I'll start with your suggestions first Stardust and check out the links after that. Once again sorry and thank you.
