Yeah, your point is very vaild. But some people like options. They dont want a dictatorship of whats good and bad. So ya never know what somebody might like, I just added those "in addition" to what was posted above, maybe I would have been more accurate to post some song titles. instead of just names.

I am not saying this is a dictatorship or not to give options. That would be stupid on my part.

But you could have added Lester Young, Coleman Hawkins, Art Tatum, Art Blakey, Freddie Hubbard, Lee Morgan and about a couple thousand others. There are so many legends of jazz to choose from.

If you really like piano music I would check Bill Evans (if you haven't) especially the two I mentioned above. Also, Art Tatum. He was completely blind in one eye and almost the same in the other and you will not believe what you hear him playing. There has been no one like him before or since. Some others Bud Powell and Thelonious Monk.

Hey im glad we could talk things out. I thought maybe you were one of those people that just like to stir up trouble. But you don't seem that way, you were just protecting the name of jazz.

The Patriots won on a FG 32-29.

It's not that I am protecting the name of jazz as much as I just like people to really get their money's worth.

The major problem of BBSs is that since people can't see or hear you things can very easily be taken the wrong way and arguments start. I really didn't mean my first post to be taken as an attack. That is my style.

Fats Waller is the man. His playing style if called stride. Not only is he one of the piano greats but was also on the organ.

Fats wrote what are considered some of the greatest Jazz songs like "Honeysuckle Rose," "Ain't Misbehavin,'" "Keepin' Out of Mischief Now," "Blue Turning Grey Over You" and the extraordinary "Jitterbug Waltz".

Once when when Art Tatum walked into a club that Fats was in said "God is in the House". Their is a CD by that title out on High Note.

I would recommend getting The Penguin Guide to Jazz. They are now on the 6th edition. It's in my opinon the best book on record reviews.

Another good source that you an use for quick info for all styles of music is All Music Guide.

On the whole their reviews are ok but not on par with Penguin. They also at times have wrong information on the musicians involved or other vital information.

Since Penguin is written in Great Britian they tend to favor a lot of European musicians. They also are big fans of avant and free musicians as well as people like those I have named already.
