This has nothing to do with sub classifing. To sub classify would mean they have anything to do with Jazz in the first place. The only actual Jazz related musician you mentioned was Chet Baker.

Look I wasn't trying to lash at you when I asked you why you would suggest those two.

I would like to point out that I did start my initial post to you with this line.

Everyone has their own tastes.

I wasn't attacking your tastes but asking why recommend those two who are not known for being actually Jazz musicians.

While I think Equinox has an excellent I would not have suggested several of those on his list like Albert Ayler, Peter Brotzmann and other avant/free players. Without knowing the tastes of those I am recommending recordings beforehand that might be a sure fire way to put them off to all Jazz.

If it turned out she was into the more extreme styles of music I would have adjusted. If she had answered that she was into more dance/pop type music than I could have given more along those lines. That is why I asked the questions I did and why I made sure to recommend those recordings thought the best by the vast majority of listeners.

My point really is that there are so few jazz fans these days we could use as many more as possible.

I have seen described David Benoit as playing new age with a beat.

Vince Guaraldi in my opinion is along the lines of Contemporary Jazz, which is not jazz.

Well, I see your point as well, but their music i believe spawned from jazz, making them jazz artists. Maybe all their music is not jazz, but that doesn't disqualify them from being a jazz artist, dont be so hasty
