Maybe they can still lick it or something before putting it in the cardboard box?

Anyway, I hope I will not have aged dramatically by the time I receive it.

Thanks for the heads up, Satch.

Time for another Satchmo bedtime story. This one will be much shorter than the "Complete" Coltrane Box set.

It's a two part story.

Sony and Miles Davis Box Sets, and Cduniverse.

There has not been one Miles Davis box set, which Sony has released on it's original release date.

They usually were released 1 year from their original date, which has always pushed back the release of later box sets, and so on.

This particular box sets original release date was 3 years ago.

Don't worry about you getting it, as I informed the young Grasshoppa, which he repeated to you, they have to sell it to you at the price you ordered it.

Cduniverse screws up like this every so often. I personaly think that this is their cost for that set.

They previously mispriced a set, which ran for $250 for $50. Satchmo was all over that set. Satchmo put in a huge, with a capital

H order, for people and those peons that survived the annual Chirstmas Eve

firings, which everyone knows, keeps Satchmo's heart warm. It took all of 5 minutes from when the order was made, by one of my most trusted peon, for them to correct the price.

Unforutnately, that year a lot of peons made it past Christmas Eve....the bastards.

For those now worried, Satchmo has held off putting in his order. Anyhoo, for this particular box, there isn't as many people/peons that would be interested as that other set.

Now, whatever savings you might have, will be offset by the bill my accountants are preparing.

If I may make a suggestion, since this is a suggestion thread.

If you're interested in anything else from cduniverse, combine it with the Miles box, and you don't have to pay anymore beside the standard shipping price of $6.99. Even if it's another pre-order like the Brother Ray, Jelly Roll Morton, or Monk/Coltrane. I believe, you can hold off on an order up to 2 weeks from the release date. I would confirm that, just to make sure.

This way, you can cut down on shipping costs.

Satchmo may be rolling today and everyone around here has fun with that, but I will never forget what it's like to be broke. There is no reason, to have to spend more money for something than you have to, no matter how small/big the bank account happens to be.

I was listening to the radio today and they were playing a song by Ron Holloway, who I hadn't heard of previously. I didn't catch the song name or the album (the car was noisy, I was lucky enough to get the guy's name), but I liked it a lot. Any album reccomendations, his solo stuff or any of his work with other people (Dizzy Gillespie, Gil Scott Heron, etc.)? All thoughts are welcome.

Didn't do much for me. Had a couple recording as leader. One is called Struttin'. It's a homage to Sonny Clark's Cool Struttin', even has a similar cover. Kenny Barron is actually more interesting on Struttin'.

By the time he was playing with Dizzy, Dizzy was way past his prime and Heron hasn't been interesting since the 70's.

A poor man's Stanley Turrentine, with a dab of Newk.

Just stick to Newk and Turrentine, and you will enjoy it a lot more, especially Newk.

A classic recording and cover.

the homage

I'll take your advice, and find some Turrentine and Newk (I've actually got some Turrentine on my computer, I'll listen to that), but I'm also gonna check out some of Holloway's solo stuff. I liked what I heard, and there's no harm to be done...

You can't go wrong with most of Turrentine's Blue Note recordings, especially as a sideman, and especially with Jimmy Smith.

His older brother was Tommy Turrentine, and played trumpet. Didn't have the career his younger brother had. Stanely's one time wife, Shirely Scott was one of the baddest organ players. She could bring so much greazzzze, that you might need a triple bypass after a listen.

He recorded with both of them.
