This probably isn't the right place to ask this. I'd suggest this part of the forum.

For a first timer look into Buzz, Reason or Fruityloops. Buzz has the advantage that it's free!

Reason is very handy whether you are a performer or more of a programmer.

It comes with Abletone Live which I have heard is a very easy to use sequencer: very helpful to play live and use samplers with different tempo.

You could also need some wav editor. Sound Forge and Steinberg are very OK. They will help you to edit your samplers, enhance your sound and normalize your tracks.

If you are going exclusivelly to sequence, Ableton Live is enough.

Well, in the real world I use Logic. I've been using it for about 7 years and I've tried a million other things and they just don't touch it.

However, I'm going to have to think about live performance soon, so I'm going to look into Ableton Live.

I use it on the PC. not even the very latest PC one which is 5.5
I use 5.1

The thing is with logic is that once you understand it, it's so much more convenient and easy to use and the possibilities for editing at both the micro and the macro level are pretty much limitless!

When that magic money tree finally grows in my garden I'm going to buy a top of the range powerbook and the latest logic. Until then what I've got will do!
