Odd instrumentation?
Check out some of Art Ensemble of Chicago's free jazz records. They use a lot of standard jazz instrumentation, but they include a lot of really weird instruments not normally found in a musical context. Here's a listing of what some of them play

Also, it's just awesome. Full of energy and amazingly well done.
try "Fanfare for the Warriors". The instrumentation on it isn't really visibly THAT strange, but it's a great album.
