While I am not a huge Jazz fan, I do know the works of most of the jazz masters and Miles is among them... "Kind of Blue" is just an awesome work... Miles with Adderley, Evans and Coltrane,,, amazing...

im a bigger fan of tony williams (drummer). hes my alltime favorite drummer, and his solo work was phenomenal (sp) as well as his work with the md quintet. but my favorite album by davis is either Dig or Bluing. also, bitches brew and kind of blue are high on my list.

well Chet Baker was a brilliant trumpet player.

I think in terms of playing he was on par with Miles Davis.

He wasn't the same composer as Miles though.

Miles couldn't sing, but Chet Baker had one of the best voices in jazz (at least the most emotional) so Chet beats Miles in terms of singing hehe.

Still overall, I think Miles pulls ahead, but not to discount Chet at all.

well, I agree with that. Miles was better then Chet at playing the trumpet. For me, it's just more the feeling I get when the two of them play. Maybe chet is more easy listening I dunno, but he gives me a more relaxer feeling.

Personally I don't think Chet Baker compares to Miles. About the only Baker I care for is his work with Mulligan in their piano less quartet.

Has anyone heard the new Miles Birdland 1951 out on Blue Note? I know most of what is included in this release has only been released on bootlegs in the past. So how is the sound quality?

davis is a better trumpet player than baker ever was, a good comparison is lester young and johnny hodges, i know i know they are slightly different instruments but as far as overall saxophone player who do you think was better, young or hodges?
