without drums every song would be a just like a ballad, the drums and bass determine the rythym, timing and speed of a song. The drummer and bass player are the backbone of every band.

right drums and bass are the rhythm of EVERY band...
but what is it that distinguishes a rock band from every other band? i still say it's the electric guitar...

Well, since everyone's taking my Didgeridoo comment as seriously as I intended it (not very), I'll post a constructive comment:
I'd have to place my favor w/ the bass -- true, drums are often the rhythmic backbone of a band, but a good bass player can do just the same...and more than simply provide rhythm, bass is what gives a band weight and presence...without that, a band will simply sound weak and thin. The bass is where the power is.

perfect. its like yure speaking through me.

You are simply not getting the point. Rocking album is not a term to classifiy a good album. An album may not rock out and still be great, and vice versa. I also think that electric guitars are what makes a song rock.

drums, i mean all bands have them. EVERY BAND has a drummer.
everything i mean. you cannot do without a drummer. cause he is the main thing.
but you also cannot do without ur bass, ur guitar, ur vocals, and even keyboards help ALOT. i mean it is a silly question. there is not a better instrument. but without one t he others would suck. so you tell me

I've said it before and I'll say it again. The most important instrument of all is the creative mind.

Ah, so that's the elusive secret? The bands out today need to take note of this one. Good call on that one, Reverend Rock.
