Aesop Rock
DJ Shadow does a lot of hip-hop and hip-hop influenced stuff
Prefuse 73 has a lot of experimental hip-hop sort of stuff
RJD2

I'd say Jurassic 5, to round off my top 5, but they aren't very underground.

yeah.. ditto that.. i almost cried when i saw Slug on MTV and Jimmy kimmel .. they're def not underground none of them.. even slug gave up on rapping about "fuck mainstream" a while back..

As long as they stay true to their lyrical roots.. i'll remain an avid listener...

*Co-signs*

To be honest I first heard of underground and whatnot, from a different hiphop board a while back. Rhymesayers has a sick lineup...Shadows On The Sun is my shit...se7en travel's was still a dope album, but can't fuck with lucy ford or god loves ugly...once I got into underground shit, I can't stop...not to much of a fan or ace rizzle, his style is an aquired taste, but he has talent none the less...hiphop one love...

i wouldn't consider Atmosphere or Aesop as underground although i still think Aesop is dope, gettin a little tired of Atmosphere, i deffinately overplayed a few of their albums. But i'm starting to get more into the Anticon stuff, like Doseone, Sole, and Why?. also down with Mars Ill, you guys should check it out.

Not really that underground, but check out Maxi Priest, Jimmy Cliff, Eek-A-Mouse, King Tubby, and hell any of the Marleys if you want good reggae.
