Talking i guess it's not an indie forum..what was i thinking

when did spin doctors classify as indie. oh well. all i can say is that stereolabs new album bbc sessions ABC MUSIC has been released and i'm waiting very impatiently for the stores to get it. also, the new Add n to (x) album - loud like nature has been released as well as their new single for Take Me To Your Leader. if anyone hears of new albums and news on indie bands that are "good". feel free to make this your home for that kinda post. also in indie news...well not really news. a super freakin site to visit for sweet ass mpeg streaming shows of many underground live shows. way too many too list. it's on www.supersphere.com.....but i don't have the exact link to them right now as i'm at work...and typing this post is quite challenging. when i get home, i'll make the exact link to the shows cause the site is a bit confusing to find the exact spot.

Well, it`s not a forum about unsigned artists as it might sound like. I classify Indie as more of a style/image, simply when it doesn`t screem pop artist from you.
But I had to fill it up with something you know

the poo many people assoc. indie with.

nah...indie stands for independant. not a style/image...although magazines and shite seem to like putting this up as a image. i put a special GRRR out to that damn seventeen magazine for makin indie musicians and clothing into a new fashion that's never been seen before....not that all the clothes we wear anyway are from the 70's and 80's....such as my chucks...ahhh...can't live without flat feet and sneakers i've worn since i was 4. and chords...and dirty bangs (oh the beck hair)...now i feel ssooooooooo indie. even when i can't play an instrument....

okay...i'm done ranting. not rantin at you mr forum manager. just a bunch of self righteous posers. ahhh...the music scene in this town is punk or nothing....well...maybe an occasional weezer wannabe.

I know exactly what you mean, and i agree, but this forum should function in reality and can`t be what it should be without changing reality....... wich it can`t.

how about instead of calling it indie we call it 'random' where all the stuff that doesn't quite fit in the other forums goes... like the recent cd purchase thread i'm going to start...

Maybe call it "Misc."?
Anyway, isn't that what happened to alternative? It started out being an "alternative" to mainstream music - regardless of genre - and it just ended up being a genre within itself.
Looks like the underground kids are going have to come up with a new word for it now.

Oh and Pan, I think the recent CD purchase thread should go in the FSS Forum

i think the main difference between indie and alternative is that alternative was a different style of music... it always claimed to be a slightly different version of the mainstream...

whereas indie is less about the style of music and more about the state of mind behind the people making the music... the whole concept of indie is making independent music the way you want to make it... recording it from your own pocket to put the sounds you want on your own disc... it's about independent people making the music themselves... wether it's punk / rap / metal / country / jazz / techno / folk the style is irrelevant...

Then it wouldn`t be stupid of me to change Indie into Alternative, would it? I just did it, but please protest.
