Bon Jovi's New Jersey is also a great way to kick off an awesome rock album.

Hmm, wonder why I never posted in this thread after it was bumped, I really like this topic.

Like a Rolling Stone - Bob Dylan (the drum beat and then all that thundering piano gets me every time...this is the one, best opening ever for my money)
P. Funk (Wants to Get Funked Up) - Parliament, Mothership Connection
Only Shallow - Loveless, My Bloody Valentine
Fisherman - Congos, Heart of the Congos
Neighborhood #1 - Arcade Fire, Funeral
Things Done Changed - Notorious BIG, Ready to Die
Bone Machine - Pixies, Surfer Rosa (I really love how Break My Body comes in after this)
Part 1: Acknowledgement - John Coltrane, A Love Supreme
Afro Blue - John Coltrane, Live at Birdland
Machine Gun - Peter Brotzmann, Machine Gun
Gimme Shelter - The Rolling Stones, Let it Bleed
Rocks Off - The Rolling Stones, Exile on Main St.
Once - Pearl Jam, Ten (best song on the album, in my opinion)
Lift Yr. Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven - Godspeed! You Black Emperor, Lift Yr. Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven
And It Stoned Me - Van Morrison, Moondance
Luv 'N' Haight - Sly and the Family Stone, There's a Riot Goin' On
Thunder Road - Bruce Springsteen, Born to Run
Countdown to Armageddon - Public Enemy, It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back (London, England, you have been WARNED!!!)
Five Years - David Bowie, The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars
Lonely Woman - Ornette Coleman, the Shape of Jazz to Come
Disorder - Joy Division, Unknown Pleasures
The Chronic (Intro) - Dr. Dre, The Chronic (yeah, it's ridiculous for me, a middle-upper class white kid, to go around blasting this album, but that opening is huge, with the "Welcome to Death Row...", jail doors slam, and then the synthesizer starts screaming...ridiculous, yes, but excellent music nonetheless)

As you may have noticed, I like the ones that open with the drums.

"Paint It Black" Aftermath - The Rolling Stones
"Remake/Re-model" Roxy Music - Roxy Music
"Five Years" The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust - David Bowie
"Future Days" Future Days - Can (absolutely love the beautiful lead up to Suzuki's vocals, and works well as the lead track of the album)
