OK, well maybe here's one we can agree on by the Moodies...how about "Procession" from "Every Good Boy Deserves Favor"? I've always loved that one...

And now I'd like to offer a couple more from my favorite 80s band...

"Sunday Bloody Sunday" from "War"
"Where The Streets Have No Name" from "The Joshua Tree"

I agree there... It's a good lead into the amazing "The Story In Your Eyes"...

Love the intro.

agreed but like the rest of the album it kind of fizzles after the first bit... its like you have this killer build up and then it just kind of goes pop instead of POW!

as for my favorites album openers...

stop! - jane's addiction (ritual de lo habitual)
battery - metallica (master of puppets)
airbag - radiohead (OK computer)

Good one, that's one of the first ones that came to my head.

J. Spaceman has always been rather good at kicking off an album:

Spacemen 3 - Take Me to the Other Side
Spiritualized - You Know It's True
Spiritualized - Medication
Spiritualized - Ladies and Gentlemen, We Are Floating in Space

Others:
Nick Drake - Introduction (from Bryter Layter)
Stone Roses - I Wanna Be Adored
Verve - A New Decade
Verve - Bittersweet Symphony
Ride - Leave Them All Behind
Oasis - Rock and Roll Star
Oasis - Fvcking in the Bushes (unfortunately, one of only three good tracks on that album)

think everything else has already been mentioned...

Baba O'Riley - Who's Next

I can only imagine how this opening seemed when the album first came out. Here you are with a brand new Who album and you're expecting to hear 60's Who, and instead your introduced to a whole new 70's Who - on top of the different sound, you've got Roger's Voice which almost seems to have aged 10 years since Tommy.
