anywho, great band that should get more attention. not even my dad knows them.

Get Together is a great great great tune, but it's by The Youngbloods and it's more folk rock then psychedelic... But the lyrics do give it a psychedelic feel...

The Youngbloods did the version that got the airplay and became a hit in 1969 even through the song was on their 1st album recorded in 1967...H. P. Lovecraft had a version on their 1st album in 1967 also, pretty cool too, lots of flute...The Stone Poneys and Yankee Dollar debuted their versions in 1968...The first recording as far as I know is by The Jefferson Airplane on their Takes Off album recorded in 1965 and released in 1966...Buzzy Linhart, Smith, Kington Trio and Judy Collins also did versions.

Wow, cool, I did not know that... But didn't Jesse Colin Young (of the Youngbloods) write the tune... That's why I assumed they did it first... (I didn't even remember it being on that Airplane album, I must be getting old or the fact that I haven't listened to that album in 20 years)...

According to a cover songs database, the song was written in 1964 by Chester William Powers and performed by Dino Valenti.

Chester Powers is/was Dino Valente. He also called himself Jesse Oris Farrow when writing songs with Quicksilver Messenger Service.
The one thing that he definitely didn't write that was often attributed to him back then, was Hey Joe.
Jeez. First post and I'm in pedantic mode. Sorry. :-)
Anyway, somehow I missed HP Lovecraft the first time around and have only recently discovered them - I agree that they were unlucky not to be more successful. The live album shows them to have been a blast live too.

Cool... Dino Valente was a great songwriter (I love Quicksilver)...
Either way, I need to go back and hear some of these other versions of that tune...

Ah Quicksilver. Wonderful, wonderful group, especially those first two albums. They made some excellent music after Valente joined, but it wasn't quite the same group. They never came to the UK which always pissed me off :-( though I did manage to catch Cipollina when he came over to gig with Man...
