yo! yo! yo! is anybody here into dead prez?

if you ask me (and i dont see a reason why you should...) dead prez is the real deal. keeping the message alive, they are amongst the only ones who are true to what hiphop really should be about: political conciousness, social commentary, dope beats, popular education and spiritual elevation.
among all the gangsters and thugsters which give rap a bad name, and all the self titled "underground" dawgs that are so damn "artistic" - dead prez keep the heritage of such fine acts like Gil Scott Heron, Last poets, Public Enemy and KRS1 - alive.

if you never heard them - check out "they schools", "ploice state" or "propaganda".

besides, what other MC could make a fine rap song out of such a lame issue as good nutrition? ("be healthy").

I like Dead Prez and I agree that they do cover some important issues, my only problem is that they are blatant racists. Since when is good nutrition a 'lame issue'?

why?
because they unmask the racial-based reality in the states and elsewhere?
or maybe the system is racist - economy, education, law. to uncover the way the system works doesnt make them or their supporters racist. only enlightened.

here's a quote that you might consider "racist":

I find it to be harsh (like reality itself), but not racist.

My friend is a childhood friend of one of those guys in Dead Prez. My friend and I played in a hip hop band together, (I play drums) and Dead Prez said they really liked the drummer, so I gotta like em.....I got their CD, and yeah, there's some of that "I'm down for runnin' up on them crackers in they city hall!"....But it's like Public Enemy, you can't take them as racists if you're not a racist yourself.

Read the bit under the CD in the album, if I remember correctly that made me a little doubtful of some of their principles.
Like I said, I definitely agree with a lot of their view points but they seem to assume that anyone who is white is against them, which simply isn't the case.
