Dirty Three is my favourite Australian band.

I should know, I live in Australia!

I highly recommend their self-titled album.

It is so great.

They play a kind of post-rock, all instrumental and with a unique line-up. Violin, Guitar and Drums!

Honestly, one of the most exciting bands around today.

Listen to them now!

Download Dirty Three - Dirty Three.

if you like depressing folky music without any vocal, go get Dirty Three. Zephyr made me a tape of their music and it was really good. it reminds me of some early cowboy junkies stuff but more depressing and atmosphere.

I don't know if Dirty Three would fit in the experimental catagory though.

I think Dirty Three is reasonably avant-garde.

Warren Ellis plays violin in such an expressive way, it is like a voice anyway (cliche over), and it is no wonder he is in demand as a session player by so many bands.

Yeah, amazing concerts with D3 Their whole discography is good, maybe less with the last 2003 album. Try the album 'Ocean songs' of Dirty three, and also this band : Grails and their 1st album which is called 'The burden of hope'

I would highly recommend D3's "Horse Stories". It includes my personla fave song of theirs that is also incredible live: Sue's Last Ride. "Sad & Dangerous" is also really good, as are most of their others. I also dig a few of their tour eps and whatnot, "Lowlands" and "UFKUKO". I used to listen to them a lot, but it's been quite a while. Saw Mick Turner solo last year. THat was a great show.
