The Beatles
The Beatles, the most successful group of all time. What do you guys think of the 4 liverpudlians which constructed music beyond belief? Do you listen to them today? Are you influenced by them in anyway, as a group or individually? Which Beatle was the greatest? Which the most talented? Which is your favorite album? Was Yoko Ono the driving force behind their demise? ARE they the greatest band of all time?
Unleash here, people...

The Beatles (White Album in particular) contuinue to provide a great amount of inspiration to myself and the music I create with my friends.

I've been a fan of the Beatles for some time, and I still like it. But there are many bands that I like better now.
It's annoying sometimes that their drug-influence is so clearly noticeable in their music.
I don't know who my favorite Beatle is. McCartney and Lennon were of course the main songwriters, but their arrogance bothers me. Harrison is a more down-to-earth person, but I can't really enjoy his raga-music.
I read somewhere that Ringo actually was the first person to acknowledge he was leaving the group, in '68 or so. That's great: You've got these two songwriters who both think that they're the greatest, and suddenly the guy who nobody accounted for says ''screw you guys, I'm leaving.''
I guess I don't have a favourite Beatle.

I love the Beatles, but I'm one of those oddballs who prefers their earlier work to their later work (although of course, it's all great work, just some is better than others IMO). I think that especially with the White album and Let it Be, you can really hear them going off in different directions, like there's less unity in the band and that really shows up in their music. Of course, individually, I think the songs remained just as excellent, if not outright improved; but the albums became, for me, more "schizophrenic" experiences as time went on. Some people might prefer that, but my favorite work of theirs is still Rubber Soul.
The obvious exception is the final 30 minutes or so of Abbey Road... nuff said, right?
Anyway, I went on a *massive* Beatles kick about three years ago (I was 18) and I still have most of their records. I don't listen to them as much anymore, but I still appreciate their music and their impact on my life a great deal.

I do like the Beatles a lot, i think they're great they had some brilliant, timeless, often quite simple songs........A Day In The Life is mesmerising! However i think people do hold them in esteem a bit much, it's like this unwritten rule that no one can ever be classed as being better than the beatles, which is a bit closed minded.
I Realise that they were groundbreaking at the time and shaped most modern music, but i dunno sometimes i think people get a bit lost in the magic..... I dunno maybe people are still in shock that they actually came out of Liverpool
My Personal favourite was John Lennon, i liked his voice and he seemed a bit more rock n roll than the others, a bit crazier like!
I think he could have possibly been a bit of a bellend personality wise, but then i never knew him. I think McCartney comes across as a bit of a sad old cunt these days! People slag off the Gallagher's for being twats..... But i reckon McCartney has his head well and truly wedged so far up his own arse, that his heartbeat gives him a headache.
But there you go......... I love the Beatles, We love you............... yeah yeah yeah!

well see MY opinion has always been that I like badfinger and big star's records just as much as the beatles, but they didn't have to use ****ing sitars and backwards tapes and such sillyness to get across a good tune. of course that doesn't apply to their pre-revolver stuff, which is great. rubber soul is a very good album... but the rest just seems to point towards the prog-psych ****ery that dominated the early 70's.

The Beatles are the one of the greatest bands to walk the earth. Listen to Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band and Revolver and see for yourself. There are absolutely no words to describe how surreal they are.

Wow, how do I begin to answer this question? I listen to the Beatles as much as I ever did, if not more (and I've been listening since '63). Their music just doesn't grow old for me (especially from "Rubber Soul" on). My favorite Beatles album, for many years, has been the self titled double set (popularly known as the White Album).
What I love about the Beatles is the sheer eclecticism of what they did, and the strength of the songwriting.
I don't think Yoko Ono was single-handedly responsible for their breakup. There were many factors, not the least of which was that they were growing away from each other as artists and people, and Lennon/McCartney's stranglehold on the songwriting was a big factor in driving Harrison towards going solo, needless to say.

I do think they are the greatest band of all-time.. I think Lennon was the most talented, but Harrison and McCartney were giants as well... Yoko was not the full cause of thier break up... And yes, I still listen to them on a regular basis...

I agree with that entirely. The Beatles are amazing, but they're still human. But who knows, maybe 30 years from now some of today's bands might be seen with the same respect.
