While Paul doesn't get as much credit as he deserves as far as the experimental approach the Beatles took, John seemed to have a better vision of where their experiments should go...
Day Tripper is all John (just to set the facts correctly)...
The most experimental visions were John's or George's (Walrus, Strawberry Fields, Tomorrow Never Knows, It's All Too Much, Within You Without You, Lucy)...
I'm glad someone wants to stand up for Paul, but let's not stretch the facts...

All you have to do to confirm that it was "cranberry sauce" is listen to the Anthology version.

My guess is you don't know much about their full catalog... They covered so much ground at such a high level that there probably is a genre of music you like that they did (and that they did well)... But, if you only know "Hey Jude", "I Want To Hold Your Hand" and other well known stuff, you probably are really missing out on some great tunes...

So...you're just ignoring the greatest period of musical exploration in the history of recorded music? And you've heard a good portion of the few hundred million or so substantial recordings that were made during those years, right? I mean, you'd have to to make a statement like that. But honestly, whether we're talking Jazz, Rock, Avant-Garde, World Music, Blues, whatever...all across the board, musicians were taking things as far they could go and for most purposes, they succeded...not much has happened, comparitively, in the past 2 decades besides regurgitating ground covered during the '60s and '70s...
...basically, if you want to be considered as a fan of music at all you're going to have to explore the music of those periods at some point in your life...

I know for me, I am sad that someone hasn't experienced the greatness of that period... There is so much from 1966-1973 that is truly moving in rock music...

True! Some really incredible music was made between then. I think that the 70's held most of the music greats. If only music like that was being played now!

Music like that is being played now... that is the problem.... ppl just copy they same old formula... nobody has expanded rock... and I think alot of it has to do with the money side of things...
and people arnt as loyal to a band...I can only think of one person that has changed their style dramatically... and that is Kid Rock.... He went from Rap, to Rap Rock to Country (I know it isnt exploring new areas... but bands seem to not want to stray to far from what they know)

But far from the enduring love he described when, as a teenager, he wrote the Beatles' classic "When I'm Sixty-Four," McCartney finds his life in turmoil after he and second wife Heather Mills decided to separate after a four-year marriage.
