Eels

Just wondering what people thought of Eels, I know they are not exactly the most cutting edge group out there but they have always been pretty experimental with their music. Any thoughts?

(Sorry Az, I know we were talking about this last night but hey... I'm bored!)

The Eels? you mean the alternative group of the 90's? Hmm...i suppose they've been experimental, but from my opinion, I would hardly put them in the "experimental" vein, but people's definitions differ from each other.

Yes but wasn't the point in this Experimental forum that it covered a number of genres?
In terms of music as a whole I agree that they are not hugely experimental but I do think that they have played around with a number of different sounds and styles? There are some very weird songs and each album has a different style. I don't really want to get into a debate on whether they should be classed as experimental though, I just wondered what peoples thoughts on them were. And one final point, you said alternative band from the '90s, aren't they still around?

yes, they are still around, but I meant to say was "they seemed to be more popular in the 90's"

sorry for the misunderstanding.

That's cool, I wasn't really bothered, that's why I only said it at the end of my post. Do you actually like the Eels, or listen to them much?

I would rather put them in the alternative section, but I definitely love Eels... Daisies Of The Galaxy & Elektrpo-Shock Blues are two of my all time favourite albums... Played four times in Belgium during the last two-three years and I still managed to miss them...

I have it. It's really good. It's quite soft, very Electro-Shock/Daisies In The Galaxy. He's going back to what worked best as opposed to Souljacker/Shootenanny.
Also, I heard his alter ego (c'mon, we know it's E), MC Honkey, is coming out with a new CD too. I don't know when that will be or if it's true, but I thought I'd put it out there.
