I love PJ
I have Rid Of Me and Is This Desire? as well as those you listed...
Both are good in my opinion, Rid Of Me really features some stand out rock tracks, quite raw, and one song in which she sings awfully out of tune, but just skip that one, the rest is good
Is This Desire is a rather difficult album to get into, it's rather dark, dreamy, not as rocking, melancholic, I can't always enjoy it, but it definitely features a few marvellous songs as well...
Dry, her first record, is told to be very good as well, but I've never listened to it...

You can't go wrong with PJ. Orpheus summed it up pretty well.
She is great live so if you get the chance to see her, do it

Polly Jean, ohh, my lover!..
she's the only one I can call myself a real fan of...
fan is a quite common word indeed,
what I mean is that I always feel her voice inside of me, somewhere I only discover within her existance..
&dorset is the unique place I'd live, where the source of the power for creating those awesome albums appears:
Dry, Rid Of Me, To Bring You My Love, Is This Desire, Stories...
God Save Polly Jean...

p j harvey is one of the greatest artists of our time. ihav nearly every song shes ever recorded on either cd or mp3.
an album that will likely not be suggested is 'Dance Hall at Louse Point' which is a collaboration with john parish. an amazing album, released after 'To Bring You My Love' and before 'Is This Desire'. it might be a little harder to find, but it'll be worth it to any polly jean fan.
otherthingsharvey to chekout are her b-sides and demos which are all of amazing quality and her other collabortions with artists like bjork, nick cave, eric drew feldmen, pascale comlade, gordon gano [violent femmes], tricky, and most recently josh homme [queens of the stoneage].

'Dance Hall at Louse Point' is a great album, it's really hard to find: in both aspects,
*it's rarely to be found
*the record is full with experimental vocals of her, and still the angry of the 'rid of me'-era remains in the guitars, etc.
"is that all there is?" is one of the simplest songs she might have did that is included in this album, and for me it's superb; it's got some amazing lyrics w/an excellent vocal in. (and I decided to put it in the heart-melting lyrics thread!)
