Jaga Jazzist

I guess they are more jazz than anything, but then again, they have a lot of electronic characteristics, so I thought I would post this here. At first listen "The Stix" was a bit hard to get into so I put it down for awhile, and with the Haakon's advice, I picked it up again and man was I blown away. Beautiful jazz elements on top of manic drum program and even acoustic drum playing, great album. Now, as i listen to "A Livingroom Hush" I feel the energy that went into both recordings and can say that I am happy with what this Norwegian group is doing. Maybe some other artists will make something similar to this and create a whole new genre of electronics, but then again, genres are shit, right?

yeah, I'm glad he recommended them. I had heard of them for awhile, but was never really interested. It's all about opening up a bit.

Haven't got any albums by them, but yeah they have got nice things... Not always as easy, but it's jazz right:tongue:

Btw you might want to check out The Shining, formed by at least one ex-member of JJ, haven't heard any of their music, but they got some good reviews...

You might like it, Orpheus, but it's definitely not an electronic album as we've come to understand the term. If anything, it belongs alongside modern progressive rock, neo-psych, and post-rock. That said, it's still a great album, if very different.

I actually like The Stix better of the two, but that's the one I heard first. I would love nothing more than a floodgate of stuff similar to this would open. Jaga Jazzist are another example of why new music can still be great, and why we can stop reminiscing wistfully all the time. Particularly on the first album, there are moments that simply would not have existed in a pre-electronic time.

I agree it is tough to classify, even though the elements in their music are all readily obvious. They aren't quite nu-jazz and they certainly aren't acid jazz. I do know one of the members has also worked with White Willow (might still be, for all I know). It was someone on radiomute that recommended the band to me. I'll try and check out the Shining. Might be some good stuff as well

all i've got to say is 'Pooka'. Lars Horntveth's album on Smalltown Supersound is fucking great. Highly underrated solo album that was released last year. Oh yeah, he's part of Jaga Jazzist.
