It goes further back to the Blues. The Blues are the foundation of all the modern music and that includes electronica.

Double Yo!

Anyone that can get into the deep funk and Bill Evans deserves a double shot.

The record Intuition from which that Bill Evans performance is on is excellent. However, that can be said about pretty much all his recordings. Yo!

I have been checking out the two latest Mosaic Selects. The Dexter Gordon Keystone Korner set and the Don Pullen & George Adams Quartet recordings they did at Blue Note.

I too love Bill Evans (the pianist).

Geoff: Yeah, Undercurrent is fantastic. One of the best things I've heard by Bill Evans.

Triple Yo!

I love pratically everything Bill Evans ever released, but Undercurrent ranks up there as one of his finest, along with "Everybody Digs Bill Evans" and "Sunday At The Village Vanguard/Waltz For Debby".

blues being the foundation of electronica? so were the "blues" the foundation for Leon Theremin and John Cage's work in the early 20th century? These guys experimented with electronic music, therefore influencing Kraftwerk and then on and on...

I don't know, i just disagree with that statement. Possibly you can explain why it is the foundation.

If you are going to bring up Kraftwerk you can't leave out Karlheinz Stockhausen as an influence.

You really don't think Electronic/Electronica is influenced by The Blues? You think it was only Cage & Stockhausen, etc... who were an influence on Kraftwerk?

Do you think Reggae/Dub were a influence on Electronic/Electronica?

I honestly don't think electronic has anything to do with the blues because I see no similarities between the two. I'd say electronic music was a way for the Germans to create their "rock" sounds with electronic instruments. And of course, you must mention Stockhausen as a big influence on Kraftwerk. I'd say that Rock was heavily influenced by the Blues, but doubt that electronic has any similarities. I think Reggae/Dub music had some sort of influence on electronica, but nothing that truely shapes it's background.

Are you a big electronica listener, Satch? Hopefully you have a little bit more knowledge with electronic music than Syd did. He's only listened to a handful of the modern electronic artists and pigeonholed it to have no emotion whatsoever....

...then again, we are in a jazz forum, and maybe this isn't the place to be having this discussion

Bottom line, I feel like Blues influenced and shaped what Rock became, and perhaps Electronic music was shaped by Rock, but find that the predecessor really has no influence, in this case to the ending result. Damn, I sound like a math teacher, nevermind, disregard what I just said...
