youngblood bb ? i've gotta check them out. now that you mention it, maybe i've heard dirty doz or rebirth incorporating some hip hop elements. seems like a very mutually satisfying blend. very natural, like new orleans tribes (wild tchoupatoulas, etc)...
as a postscript, i was thinking how french rapper mc solaar would be an excellent candidate. he's already somewhat jazzy and also there's a scat effect in that i can't understand a damn thing he's saying...

I've only heard snippets of his solo stuff. Has he done any stuff recently that should be noted?
Oh, yeah, while I'm here I'm listening to Art Blakey and The Jazz Messengers - Moanin'

No...he really is a better fit, in the sideman role. As well, as being on the show making more money and getting more exposure, he would never be getting without it. He's no mental midget, he's not leaving that gig anytime soon.
Between the two, his brother Robin is the better musician. However, he also is a better fit as a sideman.

I've watched him on that show and he's done some killer stuff, but the material I've heard was more of the contemporary, boring style. Unless he stepped it up I don't know how much success he would have. Now granted, I've only heard one of his solo albums. I know he has the skills, but will he go out there?

He was doing basically commercial recordings for GRP, and than signed with Blue Note. There are two with Dave Holland and and one with Charnett Moffett, as sideman.
If you're really going to spend money, just go with Turning Point, and Spiritalk.

I'll have to check them out, and give the guy a second chance.
Now I'm on to loading and listening to Marc Ribot - Rootless Cosmopolitans.

economically no. of COURSE eubanks will not leave the tonite show band, no matter how tired they sound usually. musically, it's too bad he can't. he showed alot of promise on his '82 debut "guitarist" on elektra musician, a label that was slicing some nice vinyl in those days. part of the debut's appeal was the presence of drummer ronnie burrage. the grp years were a virtual black hole. but i really feel that the dave holland ensemble is the BEST context i've ever heard him in, and that's why i was so emphatic in my silly giddiness. i'd only had the disc on for about thirty seconds when i typed that. it was THAT immediately pronounced. i kinda like that "live at bradley's" on blue note from '96. then again, it's a trio with robert hurst (bass) and james williams (the sweetest ivory), so it's not exactly gonna suck...
astor's got a squeezebox, momma can't sleep at night...
deep into a three disc piazzolla set, "tangamente 1968-1973"...
