slip inside this house, thirteenth floor elevators
lucifer sam, pink floyd
listen, for those of you who are really into shit like yes and what not, i dont pretend to listen to an eclectic mix of styles, im mostly punk music, in its various styles. after shutting out arena-aholics like frampton, floyd, springsteen, rush etc from my record collection for about 10 years, somehow im starting to see something of a wink in some of stadium/lespaul/longhair/wakeman wanking etc. however i have heard topographic ocean, think its shit and also hate their later new wave buggles stuff. this is all to put into perspective, if you would recommend a yes record or song, what would it be, in light of what i said before (ie, none of that 20 min guitar solo crap)

"Lucifer Sam" is a great, great tune...
As far as Yes goes, I too don't care much for their mid 70's and beyond stuff.. I would try The Yes Album.. Long songs, but no boring mega guitar solos (except the extended last portion of Starship Trooper, but that is more epic in nature as opposed to guitar hero crap)...

To Syd's recommendation, I would add "Fragile" and "Close To The Edge" (the two albums in between "The Yes Album" and "Tales of Topographic Oceans"). There are very few people who go for Yes' whole catalog (I'm one of them, and I think the other two are a couple of old hippies I know who live in Nashville...that may just be all of us!)...

I like punk too but if thats all I listened to I would go crazy. Thank God I'm not as narrow minded on genres as you are. BTW I like all phases of Yes's career. Close To The Edge and Fragile are essential to a comprehensive record collection.

well, you know, if you consider prokofiev, the shadows of knight, nirvana, red crayola, leonard cohen, dick dale, the velvets and ac/dc PUNK like i do (and they are), then im sure youd find plenty to listen to. thanks for the advice on yes, and not bombarding me with long lists of songs.
