It changes because there is so much great psychedelic music out there, but right now I will say...

The White Ship - HP Lovecraft
The Madman Running Through The Fields - Dantalion's Chariot
(We Ain't Got) Nothin' Yet - Blues Magoos
The Garden Of Earthly Delights - United States Of America

A year ago I couldn't have said this, but I'm proud to now be able to say that I have all of those on CD!

Wow,, those three tunes are really among the greatest of the great (in any genre).. But, I am not sure I would say "God Only Knows" is purely psychedelic.. A borderline call I guess...

In my experience, "God Only Knows" is the most acclaimed song I have ever come across... I have never heard of anybody (fans, critics, historians) who didn't like that song... Truly a masterpiece...

Whether or not "God Only Knows" can be considered a psychedelic song, it certainly had a strong influence on British psychedelia. The Beatles especially were totally blown away by that song, and the entire "Pet Sounds" album. "Pet Sounds" was a much bigger hit in England than it ever was in America.

My feeling is Pet Sounds opened a whole new channel for recording music. Psychedelia is it's baby, hence why I included the song.

As alternate, I'd choose: We are the village green preservation society-The Kinks

You are not at all alone in that opinion, but I would say that "Pet Sounds" was one of a number of equally important parents/midwives/whatever...

I can't agree that anything on Village Green (including the title cut) is psychedelic on any level,, EXCEPT "Wicked Annabella"...

It's almost an anti-psychedelic album in that while so many others were experimenting with psychedelic rock ol' Ray Davies was just churning out top notch rock, folk rock and early pub-rock...

But it is a GREAT album,,, one of my personal top 20 in the history of rock music...
