IDM is possibly the dumbest term ever created, mainly either by critics who are drunk and tired, or by arty nerds who want to seem more smart by picking which DSP effect was used by which artist first. Ask any (good) artist in this crappy-named genre what they make and they probably won't say IDM.
Conversely, the best term however, is easily "braindance", because it describes what most of this great music induces. Not intelligence. Mozart never appeared on Warp records, and I don't think Stephen Hawking dances to AFX. Intelligently.

holy crap that would be even weirder than aphex himself in the limo.

instead of the limo, we will see hawking sitting in his wheel chair in this extremely long handicap bus. and you see the automatic thingy lifting him off the bus. and the ladies would just gawk at him and stuff.
