well...i can't think of any from 2003 at the moment, but this one came in at the end of 2002: squarepusher's do you know squarepusher? the live cd was okay...i've never seen them live but it makes me want to. but the other...just didn't seem as good as music is rotted one note or hard normal daddy to me

well, I'm the totally opposite, I hate the live disc, yet I love the studio disc, "Kill Robok" is one of my favorites and then his musique concrete styles on a couple of the songs are nice, he's going a bit more experimental which some people may hate, but just take a look at his releases, the only 2 albums that have basically had the same style are "feed me weird things" and "hard normal daddy"...one of the best programmers, ever...

lexaunculpt ('has been trying not to wonder' is still one of my favourite songs this year, but the rest of the album does not come even close to the beauty of the mentioned track. not. even. close).
ulrich schnauss (more of the same, only less good. much less).
xela (a lot of 'serious', 'meditative', BORING tracks interrupted by moments of pure electronic bliss).

that makes me feel bad, I did a review for absorb.org earlier in the year and i called it amazing , I understand ya tho, 'has been trying not to wonder" and "le elancholia" are my favorite tracks of the album...and you think the Ulrich Schnauss is disappointing? I haven't heard the xela album, but I'd love to!

awww, there, there.

the thing is, i just don't find it as good as you do (and the most of reviews i read are just raving about this album). i find it merely good. a bit above the average, y'know. i mean, i LOVE deftly programmed beats, but too many of tracks on this album ARE just that.
and what disappointed me the most (after the experience of 'has been trying not to wonder') is that he does not allow melodies to come up front more often. and when he does, well, they're kind of lame-ish.
it does have some other strong tracks ('ninety seven cars', for instance, 'le elancholia' is TOO much of a boring-movie-ending- credits track to me), but when it gets down to making a compilation for someone, i won't think twice about which track i'm going to put on my flashy new slim-cased Traxdata CDR-80.

okay, maybe i've gone too far with this one.
but the thing is, after i listened to 'strangely isolated place' for the first time, i never had an urge (khm.) to listen to it again.
but he's the kind of an artist to whom i'll always give a second chance, so let us leave it at that for the time being.
[or, until the end-of-the-year-list time comes when i'll have to listen to it whether i like it or not. ]

xela.
his album is cool. it really is.
when you strip off the boring, artsy tracks.
you'll love it, i betcha!

and i think, am not 100% sure, that he has had a collaboration album released a month ago or so with some other guy under the name of 'yasume'. from clips i have heard, it might be quite awesome. it has BOTH creepy/lovely melodies AND some good beat-programming.
WOOHOO!

[oh, and i've DL'd - yeah, yeah, i'll rot in all of the thirteen pits of burning feckin' hell, but until then i'll download my ass of, thank you very much - the new telefon tel aviv album. you heard anything from it? i'm still not quite sure what to think of it. but they're in that 'second chance' category as well, so let's wait a while...]

--phew. sorry if this was a bit too lengthy...

sorry, I have nothing to contribute to this thread because I haven't been getting brand new fresh out of the oven CDs for a long time this year

alright, i'm gonna have to say So's "So" album...I had high expectations for this I guess (since it is Oval), and it just bored me to death...anyone else feel the same way?

and zimske, i totally understand what you mean...I'm just biased because the tracks that I do find beautiful, I realllllly do like...and yes, I'm anxious to hear the Yasume album myself, i love pretty much anything that's off of City Centre Offices...

I can't think of anything that's truly disappointed me this year. I felt a bit let down by Tarmvreds 6581 ep, but I still really enjoyed it, I just thought it would be 10/10 instead of 8/10 standard!
