Build Your Own Jazz Super Group

Inspired by my Rock post of the same name, I felt that there should be a similar thread in the Jazz forum. Personally, I think that this type of thread actually applies to Jazz more than Rock, considering that literally countless musicians have moved through the bands of so many leaders that it's not much of a stretch to imagine combinations of great players. So, let's have it: What Jazz musicians would you love to see perform/record together to form, in your mind, the ultimate Jazz group?

I realize this is incredibly difficult to imagine, given the sheer number of musicians out there, but just give it a shot.

I'm posting this and then going to sleep, but I will add my own selections when I have the time/focus needed to really think about this one.

hehehe i totally agree... although he doesn't really showcase his 'traditional' skills on the newer squarepusher stuff... no one said my super group had to be all traditional guys hehehe... i'd also add flea on the trumpet to my lineup...

well, the bass playing he did on Hard Normal Daddy and also on Burningn'n tree was none other than stunning, and also one of my favorite tracks "Iambic 5 Poetry" showcases his emotional side of it...wish he would showcase it more, and even his "Music is rotted one note" showcases him behind the drums and the bass, seeing how great a musician he is bothers me because he doesn't show it traditionally as much as he probably should...
