I figured it had to be a mistake.

I would add as my singer Lady Day. For guitars there are two choices in my mind for pre 60's Django/accoustic and Charlie Christian/electric.

Post 60's guitar would most likely be John McLaughlin or if it's a free recording/performance Derek Bailey.

If I had to choose a vocalist it would be Lauren Newton.

Here, I changed my list to reflect my Free-Jazz supergroup:

Han Bennink - Drums
John Coltrane - Tenor Sax
Eric Dolphy - Clarinet
Peter Kowald - Bass
Nels Cline - Guitar
Cecil Taylor - Piano
Julie Tippet - Vocal
John Zorn - Alto Sax

Would have made an interesting session...

Actually, the group that recorded Kind of Blue would be my dream set, but if I had to pick a second, here it is....

Miles Davis - trumpet
Dave Brubeck - piano
Dexter Gordon - tenor
Mingus/Pastorius - bass
Gene Krupa - Drums

what ifs in jazz...

what would be the craziest recorded what ifs, and time period to you?
what i mean, is if certain jazz cats could have recorded together that
never did (for whatever reason), while they were both alive together
(something feasible), what would it be? give me a few too...

here's a few of mine:

john coltrane 60's with tony williams, maybe along with
elvin jones and crew or rashied ali! i think this would have
been freaking outstanding!

monk and dolphy---60's...damn why didn't this shit happen!

cecil taylor and dolphy---i know that dolphy was preparing
to join taylor after he was to return from europe with mingis
in 64' but...well, damn...it never happened!

miles dave is hendrix (WHEW!!!) woulda been nice.

what do you think?
