Question Mp3 player or MD player?

I'm trying to decide which one I should get..I can't resist the ipod...*sigh* It's so pretty yet so expensive. I would loove to get the 10GB (I really don't need 40GB..'cause I don't have 10,000 good songs to put on ^^; ) one but it's $300! Yikes..there's another mp3 player similar to the ipod (I think it's called Nomad?) that lets you put 30GB of songs for the same price...so I'm scratching my head about that...or may'be I should just forget about those and think about getting an MD player..they're much smaller and also look pretty cool (especially the Sony md players ^^) but I've read some bad stuff about it..and I would hate to carry little discs wherever I go...

The reason why I want an mp3 player or md player is 'cause I'm sick and tired of my sony sports discman. It's five years old and it's bulky..I could hurt someone seriously ^^; Anyway, as with an md player, I don't want to carry cds either...

Hmm...I think I just answered my own question but I would love to hear your opinions..so please help~! Thanks~

there's no thread about this here because this is not the right place for this kind of thread!
There is a forum for music equipment. You should put it there cause people will pay more attention to it.
>Mp3 player! (that's nothing more than my personal view but I think that Md will disappear soon)

my friend just got an Ipod and she loves it to death. it seems to work pretty nicely, she's got the 10Gig one and still hasn't filled it up yet. I would totally get one if there were a version what was a bit cheaper, maybe $150.

I would personally go with the MD player. I have had one for about two years now, and it still works like it's brand new. I own the Sony MZ-NE410 version, which is my recomindation if you decide on that instead. Sure you download them on discs, but they can hold a good amount. Even if you do have to carry them around, I'm sure you can carry at least five in your pocket without noticing it. Usually when I download songs on a Mini Disk I just take off songs I dont listen to that often and put the new ones on so I only have one small Mini Disk in my MD player. I wouldn't choose the MP3 player for severel reasons.
1.To expensive (The cheap ones dont work)
2.Not as cool looking (Personal Opnion)
3.Better Sound Quality, MP3 players dont seem to sound as good as a MD, thats the main reason.
4.MD Sony is recommended by many magazines ex:consumer reports.

I've got myself an mp3 player. Not an ipod, but its an mp3 player. The one I've got is a Compaq PA-1. It costs just alittle over $150, and holds about 2 hours worth of music, which is upgradible by buying another and/or bigger Flash Memory card, the player can hold two.

Its height is about 2 inches, a width of 1.5 inches, and about half an inch thick... about the size of a pager.

Comes with a removible belt clip, uses 2 AAA batteries, a backlit LCD screen, and USB interface. Settings like Shuffle, repeat, and custom bass, & treble.

The only things I really don't like about it is that you can only use either Windows Media Player V7.1, and only that version, and MusicMatch Jukebox to send the songs to the player, and that it uses up batteries to do so. I recommend picking up rechargibles, thats what I did for it.

Anyway, thats mine. Not great, but not to expensive and suits my needs just fine. With the stock memory (64MB) I can fit 2 hours and 10 mintues worth of quality music. Which is plenty for me. I plan to get myself 2 of those 108MB cards I've seen tho which should bump up the amount of music quite abit.

Oh and btw, I've had it for about 2 years now and it still works beautifully, and I've accidentally dropped it a fair amount of times. lol

You'll never get any perfect answer you know!
Now that you know what's right with one and what's right with the other one, maybe you could tell us what's your feeling! We might correct a false vision or impression!

Thank you all for your help ^^ I'm still not sure, though. But I'm thinking about the ipod more than an md player..I know you can put alot of songs on a little disc but putting 2,000-10,000 on one player is hard to resist. For example, if I wanted to listen to a certain song on a mp3 player, I would just have to search it within the hard drive. But if I had an md player, I would have to look for the disc I put the song in..not that it's a huge task or anything but an mp3 player would be nice for long trips or something...so may'be I'll just go with an mp3 player (ipod or not). I think I should wait until next year..a better *super windows friendly* version of ipod could be released and technology is always gettin' better and better..so..I'll wait and see ^^

Thank you all again so very much ^ ^

I was thinking about getting a mp3 player a while ago, but too many choices and too expensive sometimes. so I decided not to get any.

since I can burn CDs and stuff, so I just use the sony CD walkman with g-protection(whatever that is, some kind of contraception maybe???). and it has shock protection as well, so the song doesn't skip while jogging. and you can get one of those about 80 bucks. not too bad.

but then, if you have a lot "stolen" songs then, mp3 player may be a better solution because MD player has the SCMS(serial copying management system) like other consumer level CD recorders. that could get annoying sometimes.

plus, if you get an better mp3 player with recording function, you can get a small microphone and record a concert. not a bad idea.
