Question Playlist generator

I'm having the mother of all fruitless searches trying to find some software that will generate a playlist, just using a text database. I don't wanna deal in actual soundfiles, I want to create a (text) database of hundreds of tracks, giving them 'a list' 'b list' criterea, and then have the program generate a random 30 tune playlist based on given criterea (not repeating artists etc).
Seems like a simple job for MS Access or whatever, but just CAN'T find any pre-written software that does it.
HELP!?

Winamp has a random playlist generator? Handling text instead of audio files?

Random playlist generator? Do you mean like a shuffle mode? You can also export your playlists as text.

No. I think we're talking about different things. I mean a playlist generator like a radio station uses. You have a database of 1000 songs, say, all graded (a list, b list etc) and the playlist generator will 'randomly' pick tunes from that database to fill a schedule, based on instructions - no repeat artists etc.
I don't think winamp does this.

No I think you are right on that. I think MusicMatch does that though...going from a vague memory.

Wow that sounds useful but can't say i've heard of one until now. Post it here if you find it outside radiomute.

do you just need to do that with text and not the actual files themselves? Cause if you had a list of all 1000 songs or so I could totally do something like that in excel.

Yes. Exactly. Just text. Don't know how to do it in Excell though. If you have an example I'd love to see it!

I assume you are using a PC so this won't be helpful but on the Mac there is a program called Soundjam. Anyway, with that you can say how long you want a playlist to be and it will make it randomly for you without songs repeating.

I'm also sure Musicmatch Jukebox did this as well as you being able to pick genres to go into the playlist.
