Nu-Metal

What do you guys think of Nu-Metal?

Generally, I don't like it, but I also don't know what everyone is considering Nu-Metal or not.

Feedback!

nu-metal to me is what hair metal was to heavy metal in the 80s... it's a cheap version of a genre marketed to people who want to think they're tough... linkin park is nothing more than this generation's version of stryper...

it's not to say nu-metal came from a bad place though... the combination of rap and melodic elements with heavy music works really well and can provided for a REALLY heavy album... it's just that so many 'metal' bands (especially nu ones... from what i've heard) focus more on the melodies and less on the actual music... demanufacture by fear factory has as much melodic elements as most pop albums but it's still one of the heaviest albums i own... whereas korn's follow the leader just sounds like 'CHUGG-whine... CHU-CHUGG-CHUGG-whine... CHU-CHUGG-whine... CHUGGA CHUGGA-whine-screeaaammMMM...'

as far as i've heard nu-metal has always been about the incorporation of elements of rap and hip hop with the heaviness of metal... groups like korn / papa roach / finger eleven / linkin park etc...

i think the easiest way to make the distinction is with fear factory... their first few albums were HEAVY 'soul of a new machine' and 'demanufacture'... then they released obsolete... they went into a softer more melodic direction... i didn't bother getting digimortal due to all the press and word of mouth stating that they went even softer with their songs... compare these two songs they released... 'body hammer' and 'cars'... i realise cars is a cover... but at the same time they could easily have played it in their own style as opposed to copying the synth line on guitar...

just fire up winmx and run a search for fear factory... or fantomas... korn was ok when they first came out... but after hearing the same album released 4 times over hearing jon davis whine is getting kinda annoying...

I dont really think Finger Eleven could ever possibly qualify as Metal, lt alone nu metal, they're not even metal. How could they be nu metal? And they're good... lol.

They really called themselves that?

The reason I asked this originally was I wanted to see how much I qualified as a posuer, and thank god I'm not. I like a lot of different music. Mostly old music, Hence Metallica, Aerosmith, Morbid Angel, Megadeth... etc... but I also like new stuff like Korn, I liked Linkin Park a LOT better when not everyone knew who they are. I like some "nu metal" but a lot of it is too soft for me, or all they do is try to act hardcore( ie Slipknot).
