Oh I know. I still love some of the nu-metal bands. But I don't usually mention them because I hate being associated with the nu-metal heads that so much populate my school. I listen to Korn every now and then. I love Staind, SOAD, and sometimes even Disturbed. I don't HATE them simply because they are nu-metal. I just hate the fact that they are even called metal. They are Rock to me and always will be.

I was very big on KoRn until 'Follow the Leader'. Though, it did have some good songs, it felt watered down. I'm sure it's because, by then, they were trying to appeal to a more mainstream audience. Of course, I can understand why. They were under pressure from the label since 'Life is Peachy' didn't do as well as the self-titled debut, and by then, most of them were on their way to forming a family unit.
Also, being from Florida, I was also was listening to Limp Bizkit since way back. I'm a hip-hop fan, so hybrids appealed to me... I've never liked metal... at all. Hardcore: yes, but not metal. Anyway, Fred Durst is an idiot, so I stopped supporting them. I hope Wes moves on to do great things.
As far as Nu-Metal...? I don’t know. Um, Nonpoint is also homegrown, so I was a big into them when they were coming up (though, I hate their major label releases; I think their new producer sucks). I guess RATM counts... and Groovenics - though, they’re self described as “Groovecore” (though, maybe not anymore). I guess I was into all the local ‘Nu-Metal’ bands (Darwins, Lost, GoneMad, and etc.) though, like I said, here, it was called “crossover” - a mixture of different musical flavors. I liked their feel because I’m not really into rock and roll styles (but you gotta love dat rock-steady ). What about 311? Would they be Nu-Metal? I don’t see any aspects of metal in them at all, but... .

Let me ask you - are things like Strongarm, Strife, Indecision, Straight Faced, and Kill the Man in Question metal? If not, how do they differ? I’ve always known them as simply hardcore - and what you people described as Nu-Metal, and what we call crossover, is usually a mixture of hardcore and something else. In some instances, it’s even referred to as rap-core (if it happens to be rap/hardcore). In fact, there was a lot of [blank]cores. I think they just started to call it crossover in order to simplify things. We never called things like that “Nu-Metal” because, really, I guess no one saw any aspect of metal in it, it was just... hard. Hard rock I guess.

There's nothing wrong with Nu-Metal as a genre. Problem is that as soon as big money starts to shine through, the industry gets all excited and releases a lot of shit which just isn't ready yet. So most of the stuff that annoys us now would not have been released a few years ago. The media - always serving the industy- happily plays all that shit and people get sick of it (cause it's no good). But there's hope - just roam offside the charts...
Personally I prefer other kinds of hard music like "Stoner-Rock" - there we had a brief incident like the "Nu-Metal" Hype last year, where suddenly a lot of bad albums were released - thank god that's over again...

nu-metal aint new for sure. Yawn!!! the problem with nu-metal, or every musical genre is that they dont' really bring anything new to the table. SAME OLD SH!T IN DIFFERENT PACKAGES. more Yawn!!! and most of the songs from so-called nu-metal, they are not even angry. they are just WHINNY. and when they sound angry, they sound fake.

I agree with pogo, cashing in is the moto for a lot of record companies. and any genre will get ruined as soon as it gets a bit popularity.

Just stick to what you like and don't worry about that other shite. I'm getting old and I don't wanna be the music police. I will listen and puchase what appeals to me. And while I may joke and josh, I really don't intend to dog anything out. My point is, I'm not gonna lump any music into categories to be liked or ignored, because you never know when something may come along that makes you say "Hell Yes"...dig?

Personally, I like nu-metal. I don't like to call it nu-metal, simply because I don't like to label things. I just call it music. Examples of the nu-metal bands I like are: Static-X, Disturbed, Mudvayne, Stone Sour and Slipknot I'm actually pretty iffy on linkin park. Sometimes I like them, sometimes I hate them. Right now, I'm in the like them stage. I've been listening to a song on their new cd called Faint. I really like it, it's got something to it that make it really hard to stop listening to. My main gripe about nu-metal bands is that their cds are so friggin' short. The new linkin park cd is only 36 minutes long? 12 dollars for 36 minutes of music? That's like 33 cents per minute...I get cheaper long distance than that, lol.
