Nu-metal sucks, i dont like any nu-metal band. Alot of people follow nu-metal in this country cause they think they are tough and like the image i.e. wallet chains, spiked hair, baggy jeans and hoodys. ALso, nu-punk is an up and comming gengre and is just as shit as nu-metal.

you always hear people say well its nu-metal and it sucks! well..not all of it sucks

IMO nu-metal does suck and every single band you listed there: Pantera, Disturbed, Slipknot, Deftones, Korn, Mudvayne, Tool, Superjoint Ritual, Static-x, Fear Factory I dont like. I think they suck, this is my opinion.

All nu-punk bands suck too.

how the hell did pantera get to be nu-metal???

they've only been around since 1982... which is probably before a lot of these board members were even born...

and to the person using old metallica and alice in chains as examples for metal in the 80s... WTF??? yeah old metallica sure... they released 4 albums in the 80s... alice in chains didn't release anything until 1990 and they were a grunge band...

it's one thing to have opinions... anyone here knows i've got no problems voicing mine... but jeez... get your facts straight...

That's what Nu-Metal is?
Jeez, back in my day, we just called it rap-core.
Down here in South Fla, it was even referred to as Crossover - but crossover was just a name for bands that mixed styles of music (rap and metal?). Nonpoint was one of the biggest crossover bands (they're with a major now and apparently got dicked over) - they used elements of hip-hop, hardcore, latin/tribal music... kind of like Puya with more hip-hop. Then there's Groovenics who mix ska/hardcore/booty-music()/groove(?) - Anyway, yeah, we just called it crossover, not "Nu-Metal". You kids with your new genres... .

Anyway, as far as "Nu-Punk"... . LOL! Well, we just called that Pop-Punk. Personally though, I see that as pop... with the band sometimes doing punk inspired songs. To be honest, though, I would even be so bold as to call bands like Linkin Park and POD pop too.
Though, not that I never liked POD - I remember back when they were a Christian band. I really liked that song where they had that Spanish-guitar - I remember the video but not the name. They looked like a Mexican ass KoRn hanging out in some abandoned mill or something.

Edit Note: I remember Deftones being called "Ambiance". Personally, I think that's suitable. I can't believe I've never heard of Nu-Metal before. Is there "Nu-Hardcore" too... or does hardcore not exist anymore?

Pantera is definately NOT nu-metal. That one somehow flew by my eye when I checked this earlier. How do you get off saying something so wrong? Lol.

Pantera could be influences to any one or all of the bands you listed there.

I also don't think Fear Factory is nu-metal, but I see how people may think so. I just don't see how anyone who was awesome enough to do a song with Gary Numan could be classified ad nu.

Um... does the term "nu" imply "new". I don't know... maybe I'm just crazy. I thought the implication there was that it was like a new generation of music makers... kind of like "new wave".
