Best Jazz Guitarist
I'm really not sure how to answer this question myself -- I know that there are countless musicians that could be listed here, but the best? I'm currently into Nels Cline, Bill Frisell, Larry Coryell and some others, but I'm ashamed to say that I haven't listened to enough Jazz guitarists to be able to really answer this question, so outside input would be appreciated.

I don't know who is or was the "best" but I think everone's short list would include Django Reinhardt, Charlie Christian and Wes Montgomery. The next generation of players includes Herb Ellis, Charlie Byrd, Kenny Burrell, Grant Green, and Joe Pass. Arguably, Jim Hall, George Benson and Pat Metheny may be among the best of today's active players. The three John's (McLaughlin, Scofield and Abercrombie) would get some votes as well.

I forgot. If you want recommendations, the one's I actually enjoy listening to the most are Wes Montgomery (Incredible Jazz Guitar, Smokin' at The Half Note, Full House), Kenny Burrell (Midnight Blue), and Grant Green (Idle Moments, Complete Quartets with Sonny Clark).

Stardust, I have one more for you who I sort of forgot because he was a Brazilian bossa nova composer/guitarist - Baden Powell. I guess we should still include him under jazz, though. A really great musician.

I listen to Charlie Bird, Joe Pass & John McLaughlin, but Montgomery and Reinhardt I've never really been a fan of, sorry to say. I don't dislike them by any means, it's just that their music doesn't strike me in such a way as to say 'you will adore us and listen to our records religiously' Thanks for the other recommendations though, I'll have to look into them...
