No one knows the french Bireli Lagrene? He played also with the great Accordeonist Richard Galliano in two albums, VIAGGIO and NEW YORK TANGO.

Someone talked about Barney Kessel: i heard him in Milano, Italy, in 1990, in a solo concert. What a concert! He was old, but marvelous again!

I was just listening to Pres earlier today.

I have heard Bireli Lagrene, who is heavily influenced by Django. To the point he had no style of his own. It was very good especially when you consider his age when he first recorded. But if I am going to want to hear Django I might as well hear the real thing.

I didn't like his rock/fusion stuff at all, by which time he had tried to find his own style and get away from sounding like Django. I really haven't paid much attention to him since then.

indeed Jim Hall isn't a fast guitarist at all.

Ok this makes more sense. I would add Joe Pass to my list with those below Django and Christian. Though I still believe McLaughlin is faster.

I'm gonna go for two Johns on this one, Abercrombie first and Mclaughlin second. Can't really explain why either... I like Mclaughlin's sound, but something about Abercrombie really appeals to me.

Not by a longshot -- and I certainly wouldn't list him in this thread. I enjoy some of his recordings and can respect him on a technical level, but I wouldn't call him a favorite.

Right now I'm starting to think that Joe Pass is my new favorite...alongside Frisell...

...and I've been giving Reinhardt and Montgomery a second chance. :-D
