Hard trance...hard techno????

Whenever you go to a techno nighclub (real DJ's, at least 2 turntables, people on mind-altering drugs) they play the hardest, ear-piercing, extreme......... What kind of techno is this? and Who are the artists?

I appreciate your reply Equinox, and all the effort that you put into it. Unfortunately, your answer lacks the accuracy in which I was hoping for.
I am aware that there are many kinds of techno. The stuff I'm looking for is generally not played on radio stations. I think it can only be heard in these techno clubs.
One example is JOSH WINK's "Higher State Of Conciousness" near the end where the really high synth sound is dominant. I'm looking for stuff that sounds like that.

Thanks

Dear Crescent Fresh
I'm not a 'specialist' but I can share what I know with you.

Josh Wink's 'synth sound' is a Roland Tb303. It's one of the most famous bassline synthesizers in the world.
The typical style of techno that (over)features this sound is called "acid".
Real acid was born about twenty years ago. Acid has never been THE music to be played in clubs ; acid music was famous in rave parties but not -especially- in clubs...
Josh Wink also appears with the name of Winx (or sometimes Wink) for a few productions.
Josh Wink's music can be described as 'acid house', or even simply 'techno'.
>If you want a track that's very close to "Higher State", give a try 2 "Are You There" (by Josh Wink!). This one is even better.
>If you're looking for songs with the same type of sounds, what you're looking for is 'acid music'.
>If you're looking for the kind of techno that you cannot hear on radio, try club-house or hard-house.

Any other question?

Thanks, Alternator.
It is the rave sound I was looking for. I didn't know it was acid, but that does sound familiar.

Josh Wink's "Herehear" is actually a decent album, even collaborated with Trent Reznor on one song on that..."Are you there" is on that one, but "Higher State of Consciousness" is on as a single and also on his Winx moniker's album "Left above the clouds"...I once had a copy of this, but somehow sold it.

The resurgence of the the 303 is in a lot of todays music with a mixture of IDM, jazz, and other various genres incorporated with what is known as "electronica" or what I like to call electronic music. Praga Khan, Lords of Acid, and even Luke Vibert's material as Wagon Christ use the 303 sound for a rave type quality (with the except of wagon christ, more of a funkier sound)

i might have to look into it again... is the rest of the album similar to that track or was that the one odd electro-rock song on the disc?

well you here the high pitch of the 303 at the climax of that song...he uses it most of his music, but there are other cuts on there that are worthy still, "Are you there?" has that same sound, but I have to take a listen to it again to tell you more...
