Indeed most people want to hear easy, accessible things, things they've heard on the radio. Whereas I'm usually looking out for new things. I know this sounds kind of elitist, but I can't help it

well I am not expert on Linkin Park. Of the songs I did hear nothing struck me as very original. I haven't been listening to rock for that long a time, but my first reaction to them was "haven't I heard this a million times before?"

I like Linkin Park, i wouldn't say that they are the greatest band in the world. But some of their songs do help out my bad moods sometimes. If you don't like them, that's your choice, just like it's my choice to like whatever band i want.

okay. regurgitation.

ladies and gentlemen, today we are here to play, "how to become a really boring, run-o'-the-mill nu metal band of which every screaming fourteen-year-old who hates their life, parents, school, pink curtains, etc will love and adore forever and ever and emulate into their daily lives and like, TOTALLY relate to everything and anything your "band" has to say".

FIRST take a vocalist who obviously doesn't mind that within the next few years their vocal chords will be shot and they will never be able to talk, scream, or even moan when someone kicks them in the balls for creating such nonsense: our first contestant, chester bennington.

NEXT, take a "rap" artist to add "flavour" and "cool factor" to the "music". give this person leave to rap his "illest rhymes" into aforementioned "music", and let the bile rise in your throat. our second contestant: mike shinoda.

ADD a group of "talented" musicians, including a DJ for extra "cool" effect, mix it all together and you have the members of your band. our last contestants: rob bourdon, brad delson and joseph (mr.) hahn.

right. now you have the members, you now need the general formula to create your very own stupid nu metal band. it goes something like this:

(angry, loud music + angsty lyrics + stupid "rapping" + some stupid DJing) X 12 [or so]

once you've done all this, you have

ONE LINKIN PARK ALBUM.

and before you jump the gun mr. psychologist, i have heard everything that linkin park has to offer on album; my little brother is a big fan and i have been subjected to them for god only knows how long now.

FACT: linkin park aren't anything special.
FACT: you lose. this thread has beaten you to shreds even before i posted in it.
FACT: i just really wanted to type "FACT:" again.

good day =)

(p.s. mr. soul and iron maiden are my heeerrrroooooeeeesssss.)

You are a master of debate my friend. I think if you fart in response to this post, then you clearly have won the argument...

To understand why Linkin Park is great, you have to look at what style they are going for. If they wanted to write fantasy lyrics, they would. Instead, their style tends to lean toward psychological manifestations and states of mind...something which a metal band such as Iron Maiden rarely strives to write about. Personally, I enjoy metal and fantasical lyrics substantially more than Linkin Park's original lyrics....but that doesn't mean that I cannot appreciate their greatness in achieving their own style and colour.

I was giving an example of a band that actually has heart, would you like me to find another band? I used Maiden because they are one of my favorite bands and I know a lot about them. Obviously, I cannot use another nu metal band to support my argument because they write mindless lyrics as well. You know Maiden actually write lyrics that have/show meaning to themselves and the listeners. 2 Minutes To Midnight is not fantasy either, it is about the Doomsday Clock, although you are right that a lot of Maiden's songs are fantasy based. Could you elaborate on lp's style? And why you like it? Psychological manifestations and states of mind? Sounds like a fancy term for emotions like anger and sadness. You see you need evidence to support statements, otherwise what you say will be disregarded. I like how you just skipped over my whole argument about them being in it for the money. Selective reading skills, huh? I didn't see it, so it didn't happen, right?

here is what another fan had to say about lp on these boards a little while ago. He clearly understood the lyrics and saw the deep meaning behind them. Note the examples of the psychological manifestations and states of mind.

Basically it boils down to this....I stopped where I did because I couldn't give a shit less about the argument. I'm not willing to recap my long, hard years of music understanding, theory, composition, appreciation, and development to you so that you can think on the same page as I do. Either you understand it, or you don't...perhaps my open-mindedness, logical and creative though processes, and philosophical outlooks make me more prone than you others to looking for and understanding every aspect of an artist and their music......and while I fully understand your views, I also understand that you have not looked at it from all sides...and before you say you have....trust me.....you haven't.

again you fail to argue the point that linkin park is just a bunch of talentless clowns looking to make money.
