Groan. Why must people insist on putting down other bands. If linkin park suck so hard, why are they making so much money doing something they love. Or is that just a stereotypical comment.

of course not, good for them...but that doesn't mean I like them.... The Spice girls made lot's of money too, and they loved what they did, I guess, but I don't like them either...so, what does that matter?

If you like them good for you, I don't, I have right to my own opinion, not? I hope you're no one of those guys, who feel personally attacked, when talking negative a bout a band. (please not )

As Stardust already said the guy's voice irritates me. And no I don't know his name, but that is irrelevant. If I hate the sound of someone singing and thus don't care to listen to their music then why should I care about the guy's name?

I also think they are just in it for the money, they don't seem to have an interest in actually making music that is personal to them. Apparently a big complaint about their first album (this complaint came from fans by the way) was that in the liner notes they listed an endless amount of product endorsements. Now maybe I have this backwards because I am not a musician but if I were to release an album (which I would consider to be a very personal thing and a work of art) I would fight as vigorously as possible to keep it from becoming too "corporate." And this would go for the album itself, not just the music it contained. Does this make any sense? Oh wait I am forgetting that musicians have to earn money to make a living, damn, always forget that and the damn record companies are holding them back. And yet a lot of other bands that release albums don't list product endorsements within the notes (in fact this is the first time I have heard a band doing so). I don't see advertisements listed on paintings or sculptures anywhere either...

How about ReAnimation? Now if that wasn't a blatant excuse to make money then I don't know what is. A new band, with ONE album, says hey, lets take all the songs that we just created and have the likes of Korn's Jonathan Davis and Staind's Aaron Lewis cut them up so that they lose the artistic integrity that they had to begin with (if any, mind you). Again, if I was a musician and some other artist messed with a song that I wrote, I would be downright pissed. I simply do not understand this. Yeah I understand the whole creative license that goes along with being an artist, but these guys are simply hacks. Essentially Linkin Park is getting a tribute made to them after one album, please that is just ridiculous. Either that, or they simply think they are original by mixing up their songs, which was probably already done at that point by numerous djs at numerous clubs worldwide. Essentially all the new artists are supporting each other. Maybe if some experienced/veteran bands had good things to say about linkin park then I would care.

Ah, originality and quality of lyrics...

here are the lyrics to the linkin park song One Step Closer.

I cannot take this anymore
I'm saying everything I've said before
All these words they make no sense
I find bliss in ignorance
Less I hear the less you'll say
But you'll find that out anyway
Just like before...

Everything you say to me
Takes me one step closer to the edge
And I'm about to break
I need a little room to breathe
Cause I'm one step closer to the edge
And I'm about to break

I find the answers aren't so clear
Wish I could find a way to disappear
All these thoughts they make no sense
I find bliss in ignorance
Nothing seems to go away
Over and over again
Just like before...

Everything you say to me
Takes me one step closer to the edge
And I'm about to break
I need a little room to breathe
Cause I'm one step closer to the edge
And I'm about to break
Everything you say to me
Takes me one step closer to the edge
And I'm about to break
I need a little room to breathe
Cause I'm one step closer to the edge
And I'm about to break
Break break break break break

shut up when I'm talking to you
shut up shut up shut up
shut up when I'm talking to you
shut up shut up shut up shut up
I’m about to break

nu metal defined right there boys and girls. Find me a linkin park song with original lyrics, and one that has a specific idea behind it, an actual concrete thing, not some bullshit philosophical concept of good and bad, angry or sad. Ever heard of Rage Against The Machine? Linkin Park is RATM rehash with about a tenth of the talent. RATM had their own opinions and views and showed them in their music, I fail to see lp doing this.

Here is an Iron Maiden song, called 2 Minutes To Midnight. While not their "deepest" song, at least it is about a specific thing and shows an opinion of it. This is one of the things I like most about Maiden, their songs are about definitive concepts/things/ideas and yet are still open to interpretation.

Kill for gain or shoot to maim
But we don't need a reason
The Golden Goose is on the loose
And never out of season
Some blackened pride still burns inside
This shell of bloody treason
Here's my gun for a barrel of fun
For the love of living death.

CHORUS
The killer's breed or the demon's seed,
The glamour, the fortune, the pain,
Go to war again, blood is freedom's stain,
But don't you pray for my soul anymore.
2 minutes to midnight
The hands that threaten doom.
2 minutes to midnight
To kill the unborn in the womb.

The blind men shout let the creatures out
We'll show the unbelievers
The napalm screams of human flames
Of a prime time Belsen feast...YEAH!
As the reasons for the carnage cut their meat and lick the gravy,
We oil the jaws of the war machine and feed it with our babies.

CHORUS

The body bags and little rags of children torn in two
And the jellied brains of those who remain to put the finger right on you.
As the madmen play on words and make us all dance to their song,
To the tune of starving millions to make a better kind of gun.

See the difference?

I don't understand the purpose of this post. Are you implying that those bands are untalented? Or that you don't like them? What?

I guess maybe you dont understand that comparing Iron Maiden to Linkin Park is like comparing Apples to Volkswagens.....Edgar Allen Poe to MacGuyver.....Casper the Friendly Ghost to a human liver....they are totally different things. To understand why Linkin Park is great, you have to look at what style they are going for. If they wanted to write fantasy lyrics, they would. Instead, their style tends to lean toward psychological manifestations and states of mind...something which a metal band such as Iron Maiden rarely strives to write about. Personally, I enjoy metal and fantasical lyrics substantially more than Linkin Park's original lyrics....but that doesn't mean that I cannot appreciate their greatness in achieving their own style and colour.
