I apologise for the bad language used there... Really... It hurts me to see things like 'Lars Ulrich' Being praised as best drummer... NO way man.... Just around any death metal groups drummer would mutilate him in a duel...

Being a drummer and all i agree with 'justaguyfromcal'. A great drummer is one who can do many different styles... But within the rules of this... Best metal drummer would need to be that of Speed, Presicion, Stamina, Difficulty and most importantly... Proper use and intelligence to relate the drumming with the song... Make it fit in. Have the drums as an important part of the song, not just 'a backbone'

My winner from this would need to be 'Daniel Erlandsson'.

-I'm curious, do you honestly think that Daniel Erlandsson is better than Danny Carey???

this brings up a good point. Danny Carey is an amazing drummer, but also one that is creative as hell. If you take a listen to "lateralus" and even "Undertow" (my personal fave), you will hear syncopation so great you didn't know existed...

...ok, maybe I'm exaggerating just a bit

Danny Carey has the best creativity, range and stamina of any drummer I have ever heard. Playing with three other musicians that have incredible talent doesn't hurt either.

well, when it comes to stamina, I would say Jazz drummers are pretty maxxed out there, ever tried to play a swing rhythm for more than 5 minutes? it's a bit tiring!
