Medeski Martin & Wood - End of the World Party (just in case)

A 2004 release from MMW. I always find myself digging their music and then feeling like it sucks... and then digging it again ... all during the same song. When they're on, they're on in a big way. This is a cool album. Not a real heavy listen (it's a 'party', after all) but it's not a weak lame-o boring jam outing either. It'll stick to your mental ribs.

The art work is by Scott Campbell from San Francisco. A unique futuristic illustration with disturbing insect-like creatures crawling about a geometric landscape . Nice colors and flow. The art work wraps around both sides of the CD booklet, which means that the sample that you see here is only a portion of the whole piece. Oh, for the days of 12" LP jackets. I don't think that this jpeg conveys the beauty of this art. My only caveat is that Campbell inserted drawings of MMW's faces within the illustration, which for me, takes me out of the fantasy.

NEXT!

That's Ernie Barnes' most well known painting Back to Sugar Shack. For the two of you old enough, it was also used during the credits of the tv show Good Times.

Barnes
is from Grasshoppa mpittman's neck of the woods and was a football player in the AFL.
