i've probably already posted this one but whatever. it deserves a 2nd mention. in a time before photoshop i'm left at a loss as to just how this album cover came about. were the negatives chopped up and overlapped until it worked right? seriously, i really hope whoever was behind this album cover got some sort of award or public recognition from their peers.

Storm Thorgerson who worked on all their covers....including Dark Side of the Moon. As well as among others three of Zeppelin's (Houses of the Holy, Presence, In Through The Out Door). Most recently those you would have seen would be Audioslave's first cover and the first two Mars Volta recordings.

In the original U.S. lp release the Gigi soundtrack lp was airbrushed out. That was only on the British and Canadian releases.

Except Piper at the Gates of Dawn (designed by Vic Singh), the original Relics cover (by Nick Mason), The Wall (by Gerald Scarfe) and The Final Cut (by Roger Waters).

Sorry, T-R, didn't see your post. Does it really matter?

Look, everybody could just post all album covers he/she could think of at once, without any text. Some even do. My idea with those 'rules' was to keep it on an interesting level. Expect other users not to have seen the artwork before, but curious to find out more about it and maybe the band itself.
Me for instance, I'm not going to check if there's like ten artworks per post without any introduction. I'll just skip it, most of the time anyway.

BTW the 'Songs about fucking' cover was cool though.

1. I said he worked on them....which is different than coming up with the ideas for each one or doing them alone.

2. I was referencing the actual Pink Floyd (which ended as a real band with Animals)....and not The Pink Floyd....or when Mason and Wright were hired help.

Ok, I'm next:

Kiss - Asylum (1985)

Now this is one GREAT album cover! I love this style, no idea what it's called though. No connection between album title and cover here, but Kiss almost never had that and with such a great cover it's easy to forgive. Musically the album isn't bad, only a little monotone. It features at least one historic Kiss song - 'UH! All nite'. Low(est) level lyrics even by Kiss standards.
Quote:
When you work all day
you gotta UH! all nite
UH! UH! UH! UH! UH!
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Also Kiss' first album with guitarist Bruce Kulick.

NEXT!

Be Bop Deluxe - Futurama

The second Be Bop Deluxe album (1975) and for my money the best one of all. Art rock, glam rock, crossover prog, call it what you will. Bill Nelson wrote the music and provides the essential electric guitar essence that takes this one over the top. One critic described Nelson's playing / composing here as "creating guitar edifices. He can also wax dreamy / spacey, as the beautiful Sister Seagull or Jean Cocteau demonstrates.

I love the cover art. A futuristic art deco cityscape with the 'swan' swirling around the towers. This is a perfect fit for the feeling that Bill Nelson surrounded his music with. Birds and guitars. Birds as guitars ("Sister Seagull you're flying me too high"). He also used imagery from the Fritz Lang film, Metropolis on a later release. Retro futuristic.

The Velvet Underground & Nico

Sometimes referred as the "banana" album, it was designed by Andy Warhol. By the style, I believe that's pop art, and that would answer someone's post about the style of the kiss cover also.

Parliament | The Clones of Dr.Funkenstein

This album cover makes me laugh every time I see it. I really don't know how you can't like this album cover. I also like how the computer in the background reminds me of a giant NES...
